So how come Vydra is not getting a chance ......again... its good job Wood didnt break his leg, heaven forbid that Dyche would have to play vids to the end of the season....he said on Sky tv you can only pick 11 players.....well why not play the man that has just scored 2 goals for you....its selfish and it stinks of favoratism.....i am NOT happy at all.

Personally I wouldn’t have dropped Vydra. However the decision is vindicated and Wood does always do well vs these.

Hopefully it fires Vydra up again for when we do need him.

Ultimately wood is our best scorer.

He came on. He looked lively and could have scored. Two good chances. He missed them. Wood had quite a few chances. He scored one but missed the others, one a sitter. Vydra will get more chances to come on and I'm sure that he'll score a few more goals.

Wood scored and Vydra missed a golden chance trying to take on a man needlessly AGAIN. Dyche was right as Wood is our best striker by a mile.

We’ve got 4 cracking strikers all with different attributes, can’t keep them all happy all the time, but we’re beginning to see some natural chemistry between Jay Rod & Wood or Vydra; and Vydra with Wood too. Barnes should have his work cut out to get back in

Think the game plan was that Wood do his shift, giving them our normal game, then switch to pace later. But the goal, then a knock forced our hand.

Still thought Wood and Vid looked like they could be a very tidy partnership should SD decide to turn that way.

Well done to Woody on his goal, always scores against Spurs.
Unlucky to Vydra, just maybe vary the sidestep and take it first time.
Overall the 4 strikers are all evolving as a team of strikers.
Won't panic on which 2 of the 4 Sean chooses as the best option, given the opposition.

I don't know if perhaps I was watching a different game, but didn't Wood score? :?

If the sitter was the one in the first half where it bounced off his leg and over the bar, Tarkowski had been flagged offside so it wouldn't have counted.

That's just so wrong.
Barnes has done nothing wrong, except possibly playing whilst injured.
Didn't he score as many goals as Wood last season?

Why should he get straight back in? The other 3 are all playing well

Dyche wont just throw him back in

I'm not sure that that's really the point.
We look a far better team with either Vydra and Rodriguez alongside Wood because we play much better football. Barnes is quite effective in his own way, but he just can't do the things that Rodriguez or Vydra can.
We were very one dimensional and physical with Barnes up front alongside Wood, and for me Barnes will now become the back-up player for Wood.

Why can we not just celebrate having 4 excellent strikers and the strongest squad we’ve had in our Premier League history? We continue to strengthen the club and the first team. I’m a fan of all 4 players and trust Sean in his selection of said players. Vydra was unlucky to be benched but Wood was impressive. JRod was the one who had to be sacrificed for Vydra to get a quarter of a game, significantly more time than he used to get. He was unlucky as he slipped when cutting inside to improve his chance of scoring. It was the slip that allowed the defender to get in the tackle otherwise he had made himself a great shooting opportunity. Football matches are often littered with mistakes but it made for a great end to end game despite the often blustery conditions. Both sides played some great stuff and we generally coped very well with their pacy players. Lo Celso was very impressive in the second half and yet only created the one chance which evaded Ben Mee who otherwise defended very well. The game could have easily finished 3-3. We did not miss any ‘sitters’ just had chances that we couldn’t convert. Spurs fans would think similarly.

Vydra only failed to score thanks to a stunningly good tackle and a great save from Lloris. If that had gone in he would have been the hero...again. Wood scored...great. Just glad Vydra got more than his usual 3 minutes. Would love to see a Wood/Vydra combination start to see where it goes.
Thankfully we have more than our fair share of good strikers. Can’t see Barnes getting back in any time soon. At least on current form he shouldn’t.

Vydra should have done better with those opportunities and I'm sure he will be disappointed he didn't score. Him and Barnes are obviously totally different players and there's room for both of them depending on the circumstances.

It was the right starting line up, and the right change at the right time. Wood showed why he should be a guaranteed starter. JayRod was excellent first half, but fell off a cliff second. Vydra did what he does when he came on and could and should have grabbed a winner.
I hope we mix it up like this going forward, I said long ago its horses for courses we need to pick the attack that can best affect the oppositions defence.

He should. SHOULD. I fear there are those who think he will walk straight back in after the obligatory 20 minute sub appearance.

Time will tell.

I almost splurted my brew when I read that ! until I realised it was fishing . These Barnes fan boys are almost
deluded . Barnes been great for us and has his own brand of skill. Though the extra dimension Jay and Vydra add is something Barne’s game doesn’t .

Wood is just the better all round centre forward. He runs the line better, holds the ball better and is our most clinical finisher by some difference. He should be starting games and Dyche knows this.

Vydra has had to wait a long time for a decent chance and he’s taken it brilliantly. We were going through a difficult patch yesterday when Dyche introduced him and he immediately livened us up.

It’s fantastic that we seem to have four genuinely good options in the forward department, all of whom have shown they can offer something different and importantly score goals at this level. It has allowed Dyche to make positive substitutions earlier in the game. It has also made the summer ‘rebuild’ which we’ve heard a lot about, a less daunting task. I’d be perfectly happy if we started the season with those four as our forward options.

when we have dead rubbers, and especially if Hendrick is decided on leaving, i'd like to see us try 433 with wood leading the line and Jar and Vydra buzzing around in a tight front 3.

McNeil would then slot in behind with cork/Westwood anchoring midfield

Thought Dyche played this one perfectly. Wood & JRod were outstanding first half, then he gave Vydra plenty of time second half and he nearly changed the game.

Just watched the extended highlights. My 8 year old said “why does he always do that?” When he cut back inside. Not sure if that’s something he’s picked up from me or at the ground but if he can see it, it’s become predictable and I’m sure Jose and his team will have picked up on it. So much can go wrong with a cut back - your own control, gives defenders time to get back, keeper set, etc. Needs to get the shot away.

That said, brilliant run to create the opportunity and to stay onside.

The second chance was very unlucky that Vertonghen made an outstanding tackle to take the pace and direction off his shot.

So pleasing to have four great strikers, with Vydra offering something very different to the others. I do think Barnes will rightly struggle to get back in the first team when fully fit; JRod and Vydra have earned the right to keep their places.

WOW. To combine ALL their attributes he must be some player, and during his lay-off he must have really been putting some work in (or taking something illegal) to compete with Vydra over a 50 metre sprint.
(Not that Barnes is a bad player, but he has very different attributes to the others, and - as it appears at present - if Wood is first choice, fit and available, then he is unlikely to be in the starting line-up.)

The Summer re-build as you say seems less daunting but it's the maintainance that I worry about. I would like to see players coming in but before anything else I want us to keep what we've got. Pope/Tarks/Mee/Hendrick/Mcneil are all potential targets (Hendrick especially due to him still not signing). Dyche's biggest job this Summer isn't siging anyone it's making sure the team isn't decimated by departures.
