The Promotion Candidates ...

Post by Clarets4me » Mon Mar 09, 2020 12:02 am

Following on from " The Relegation Candidates " thread, who do you want to come up from the Championship, and why .... but also, who do you think will actually get promoted ! It's looking like West Brom and Leeds for the top two spots, but the four play-off spots could be anyone from the four who hold them at present, ( Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Preston ), to the chasing Clubs, ( Bristol City, Millwall, Cardiff, Blackburn, Swansea and Derby ) ...
Should Brentford, Bristol City, Millwall or Preston gain promotion, they'd be the 50th Club to play in the Premier League !

My choices ... Leeds, West Brom and Preston ( 1st two because they've been the best this season, Preston, a shot in the arm for the N/W ! ) , I actually think Leeds, West Brom and Derby, via a Rooney inspired late run to the play-offs ) ... Obviously, I want Rovers to either miss out on the play-offs on Goal difference, or lose to a handballed, 2 yard offside goal in the last minute of extra-time at Wembley ! :o :o

Millwall are the hottest team right now! Notts Forest, Bastards, Preston & Bristol city..... all getting nosebleeds when they get near the top.
I thought Fulham would walk the league ....Wrong again! Dirty Leeds and WBA certs.

West Brom up as champions which I'm ok with; don't mind them at all.

Unfortunately, Leeds will be second. I absolutely detest them but the Sky cumfest at seeing them promoted is going to be so unbearable.

I have a feeling Fulham will make it via the play offs.

Leeds and WBA are already up, so may as well skip straight to the playoffs.

I'd prefer the side most likely to drop straight back down to win, so probably Preston. Gives us the derby too.

With all the sides that have bottled it when they've had a chance to go 2nd or close to 2nd, the playoff final will be more a test of who can avoid to lose the most! I expect Fulham will be the team to come up though.

Cannot see past Weeds and Lest Brom for top two... prefer WBA for the champions...
I fancy Brentford to be the Play-off winners, plus it would be a new ground for next term... been to Griffin Park a few times, be nice to go to the new ground.

I was looking yesterday and although it is an unlikely scenario even Birmingham in 15th are still within shot - just. Only 9 points seperating them from Preston (who seem to be doing their best to avoid promotion just now). This Championship has to be one of the most exciting for years. Top two for sure are as good as there but still about half the teams in the division can make the play-offs, technically.

Methinks that your hatred of Leeds might just be clouding your judgement somewhat. I think the OP was asking who we thought REALISTICALLY would get promoted - not a wishlist.

Incredibly, Preston remain 6th despite having lost 4 of their last 5 league games. Their only win was at home to relegation threatened Hull City and they were one nil down in that game, too.
