Apart from that being a picture of Charles Middleton from the 1936 movie - a moving tribute.....!

Re: Max Von Sydow
Here he is in an early role and as John Wayne said (as 1st Centurion) "Truly this man was the son of god"
RIP Max Von Sydow some memorable roles from Jesus in "The Greatest Story Ever Told" to the Nazi Commandant in "Escape to Victory"

Re: Max Von Sydow
Hey Boss, Waynes one liner in that scene was considered so badly delivered that the director demanded he put some 'awe' into his voice. Wayne then said 'Awe, surely this man was the son of god'.
Well I thought it was funny.

Re: Max Von Sydow
By the way Boss - Escape to Victory??? Really??? That was a truly dreadful film. Sly Stallone trying to play football and Bobby Moore trying to act - and that was only part of it. Apparently most of the Ipswich team figured in it at some point. Why bloody Ipswich. And Pele shouldn't have touched with a bargepole. His credibility went south after that.
Re: Max Von Sydow
I refrained from putting that bit in Ian even though it made me laugh
Re: Max Von Sydow
Escape to victory! Terrible film and one of the players was ....Owen Coyle!

Re: Max Von Sydow
You will all find this hard to believe but Max von Sydow was a Blackburn Rovers fan, through his friendship with Roy Hodgson. Now there's some trivia for you.

Re: Max Von Sydow
Hi all. First post. I thought he'd passed away years ago tbh! He certainly had a rough paper round as a lad as I thought he looked 90 years ago. No disrespect meant. Fond memories of him down the years in movie parts.

Re: Max Von Sydow
You have not much future there. It will happen this way. You may be walking. Maybe the first sunny day of the spring. And a car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift.

They were okay ? They were runners-up to Villa in the League and won the UEFA Cup so aye not too bad ...but then again I don't think Bob Paisley knew one of the casting team but Bobby Robson did

Re: Max Von Sydow
Ha ha. When was that film anyway bud - I thought it was long after Robson's reign there. I know there was a brief time when the Tractor Boys were very good but I didn't think it coincided with that era - must be wrong I suppose.ralphdpomeroy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 2:24 pmThey were okay ?
