Jeff Hendrick

Post by BFC12345678 » Mon Mar 09, 2020 1:44 pm

Just had a look and I’ve seen that out of the 14 games we’ve lost this season. Jeff has played right mid in 3 of them (Chelsea at home, United at home and Sheff Utd away)
The other 11 losses he’s either not played or he’s been in centre mid.
Think it’s time people start realising he’s a valuable part of the team and whenever he plays on the wing more often that not it means we get a positive outcome.

His best position is right wing, without a doubt, but maybe his thinking is that his chances in that department will diminish greatly when our left-footed right wing Viking is fit, Hendrick has done well for us there but he isn't as good as a fit and in-form JBG. With Brownhill coming in and Cork and especially Westwood not doing much wrong it is hard to see where he will fit. And a player as good as him will not want to be just a squad back up player. I really hope he signs with us again, I think he's a great player, but it is difficult to see what his options will be.

Out of interest how many times did Ben Mee start at centre half out of those 14 losses?

Probably most if not all, how many of the 17 games in the premier league which we didn’t lose did he start in?

I can't honestly see that the Hendrick statistic means (or doesn't mean) anything in particular.

We have won games, drawn games and lost games with all our players.

Agree. Versatile, good age, quick feet and keeps himself fit. Not easy at all to replace. A real bargain in the offing for someone.

Hendrick is vilified by those that cannot see his value is his ability to play pretty much anywhere he is asked to effectively. He will be a big loss if he goes but not irreplaceable - I hope he stays though

Played well on Saturday in a battling display.

His style suits that type of game, he wasn't very good at Newcastle when we were expected to have more of the ball and influence the game a bit more though.

Celtic might not be his best move, where he will be expected to get plenty of goals and assists.

His defensive positioning is often first class, I think the frustration can be the lack of vision to see the quick ball and losing possession following this happening. On his day he can be fantastic.

Agree with that. That's why he is the perfect back up for us. However, rs midfield is the weakest position we have now, as is rb.

Dont aks me. I have no idea thats why I was asking BFC12345678.

Thats two questions for you BFC12345678. I want to know how many of the 14 losses did Mee start at Centre Back and I think Shyvince wants to ask you how many of the 17 games we didn't lose did Mee start in. (I dont think Shyvince is bothered about the position Mee was played in like I am)

The right hand side needs upgrading in Summer imo. We need to offer more of a threat from the right. The left side is looking good.

We have 3 great defenders in Taylor, Mee and Tarks but right back is a real issue. When Jeff plays right midfield he works his socks off dropping back into the right back slot. That is particularly important if Lowton is playing. To replace Jeff with a player of similar standard and reliability would cost us A LOT.
Guy at side of me at the match on saturday exclaimed " Hendricks again". Jesus, if you are going to slate him then get his name right. I like Jeff and think he is under valued by too many of our fans.

We should now dump Hendrick and get Brownhill blooded in ASAP in my humble opinion.

If he just wants to win some silverware I suppose it's perfect. Celtic have no other team to realistically challenge them over a season. Problem is that when it's that easy some players can lose their 'edge' as we are currently seeing with Liverpool at the moment who have stumbled along certainly since the winter break. I hope he remains with us but it's looking less and less likely.

well clearly Mee has started every game so far so he’sso I don’t get your point. My point in regards to Hendrick was he gets an unfair amount of stick playing at right mid when more often than not we get a positive result when he’s there

I asked a question, I didnt make a point. You've answered my question thanks though the fact he's started every game meant it didn't require your statistical knowledge and with not much effort I could worked it out myself

I do not go and watch them that would be far to much effort.

Fortunately a club as big as them with all their great history and being in the Championship means that they are almost always on some TV channel that can be streamed

Done deal off to Celtic, refused to have his hair trimmed after Mike Gaelic demanded it.

What ever happened to that GBH charge was there an outcome?

Our loss will be Celtic’s gain.

Hoping to see more of brownhill in coming weeks though. Especially with so many on eight or nine bookings.

We are simply a better team with Hendrick and Wood in the starting 11. It wont stop the agenda driven tripe some spout about him

Bump.

….so Celtic, I think, receive a large proportion of their income from the gate, and Burnley receive a large proportion of their income from Sky. Of course I don't have an in depth understanding of the season ticket terms and conditions for Celtic Park and I'm not party to the finer terms & conditions of the Sky agreement, so just wondering who might be in the better financial position to offer Jeff a contract for, say, the next year or two.

Just might be us. :)

But is he worth breaking our wage structure for?

Is it good to stretch your budget for someone who doesnt want to be hear and is being driven by finance?

Also how many players seem to up their game when their contracts are coming to an end?
Who's to say the decent performances of late will continue once he is sat on a big fat juicy contract.

He doesnt want to sign on again because he wants more money, to get that he needs to sell himself and show what he can do to potential suitors.
Who's to say IF we did stretch ourselves to sign him, he wouldn't feel mission accomplished and revert back to being bland and average again, this time on a bumper deal.

It's a serious catch 22

I really like him but as Dyche always says, it gives someone else an opportunity to step up. Gone are the days when I was worried about losing players, we now have players ready to step up and money to spent.

No catch 22 for me. The club have offered him a contract that they believe is a good deal, if he chooses not to accept it then that's his perogative. I would like him to stay, otherwise we move onwards and upwards.

I guess what I was trying to say is that Celtic's income may be more adversely impacted than ours and the terms they can offer, post Coronavirus, might be as good as ours.

I posted on another thread. Hendrick and players in the same boat should be doing their utmost to sign longer contracts with their current club right now.

That's a very interesting comparison you raise and, in view of the very recent events, it's more than possible Jeff might be reconsidering any decision he had previously made..........Let's take a look at the numbers.

In Burnley's last set of published accounts the Wage bill was £81.6m (including £23m in incentive bonuses) and the average weekly player wage was £37,931. Our matchday receipts were £5.6m within a total Income of £139m, a mere 4% and as pointed out on the MMT thread it suggests even if we were to play all our PL league games behind closed doors, there would hardly be a financial ripple within the accounts and the club.

Now Celtic..........their Wage bill was £56.2m, some two-thirds the size of ours but, more pertinently, their matchday receipts were £43.2m within a total Income of £83.4m. Over 50% compared to our 4%.

So clearly the effect of this current shutdown will impact on Celtic far more than Burnley. Perhaps if Jeff had already made up his mind to move to Scotland, in the light of current events he might well be advised to reconsider his situation and at least give it second thoughts.
