How would you cope

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Thu Mar 12, 2020 9:51 pm

Coronavirus gets worse. Armageddon hits. And it’s a free for all and everyone for themselves.

How long do you think you could survive on a purely self sufficient lifestyle?

No electric. Gas. Supermarkets. Etc. Just thrown in at the deep end living off the land.

Reminds me of the classic Private Eye cover showing Bush receiving the news re the 9/11 attack as he was listening to some school kids' recital.

What was the name of that programme in the 80's that dealt with the possible aftermath of nuclear armageddon?

Edit: Just googled it. It was called 'Threads'.

Scary stuff.

People act like lunatics during these types of scares, panicking, raiding supermarkets for toilet paper. Animals, they are. I'll continue to wipe with my hand like a normal civilised person, thankyouverymuch.

I legally own a gun so I'd be able to rob everyone of whatever stuff they were hording, which would of course be illegal but let's face it, the police would have have dissolved long ago.

Full blown viking savagery would be my first idea trying not to time it too soon. Thought maybe Easter would be about right?

Are we allowed guns? Not that I have one but know how to fire one as I used to own two rifles. Also good at archery, so could probably make a basic bow. Depends what we have left to make do with. Would we have to make our own sharp implements? Basically are we all going back to caveman days? Or do we have access to knives, guns etc?
Could I make a bow and arrow? Probably. Would it shoot straight? Not necessarily. Could I kill an animal for survival, skin, cook and eat? Yeah! Could I pillage other humans food? Yeah!
I've lived off the land before and have a basic understanding of making fires, shelter, foraging, traps etc.
I'd rather not though. If we had supermarkets I'd do as above and just get blathered every day. No football, no nookie...MEH!

Contingency plan is to get into the camper van and head north. Wait it out in Caithness or somewhere for a month or 2. Have enough gas and food for a few weeks.

I’d hunt quite happily. Not sure how some would cope without electricity and charged mobile phones though. I mean some teenagers would have to walk more than 5 yards without looking at a screen. They would have to live and fend for themselves instead of watching what everyone else was doing.
