With the peak being in April, May and June - there’s little chance of the PL picking up on early April. Could all be over

Should be interesting given we're supposed to be a month behind Italy. 590 UK cases (most of which seem to be politicians or footballers, or maybe just those that can afford to have a test done....). 12,000 in Italy.

I'd expect a confirmation of the Euros moving to 2021,and hopefully this might(and i stress might) give domestic leagues and European competitions a window to finish their seasons during the summer.

It does seem as though the football authorities are starting to make the right decisions. Football hardly matters right now but you can only hope they will be able to sensibly sort everything out when it is possible.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 11:35 amThere's no way the Euros will happen this year, for a start the play-offs have still to be concluded.

Re: Premier League gone surely...
All Scottish football suspended with immediate effect.
The remainder of the Scottish football season has been postponed indefinitely over fears about the coronavirus, the SPFL has confirmed.
Leagues and other sporting events have been suspended until further notice, with Scottish football the latest to respond to the spread of the virus.
The postponements begin with tonight's match between Motherwell and Aberdeen, and Queen of the South against Ayr United.

I don't think that they had any choice to be honest. If you think of football clubs being places of work, then infected clubs should not be interacting with other places of work.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 11:46 amIt does seem as though the football authorities are starting to make the right decisions. Add to that that players from different clubs, especially in the Manchester and London areas, often socialise together, it's no wonder it seems to be spreading amongst clubs.
This virus is no one's fault and we just have to take it on the chin and get through it in whatever way we can.
A lot of little clubs are going to go bust. Will the super rich PL help them? I doubt it.

Travelodge booked already, for Watford. Write off.
What a shame.
No need to worry about international break now! No internationals. Pope remains England's most recent number 1!
Dwight won't get to play in front of a home audience.
Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor will all have to wait a little longer.
Steven Defour has a chance of full fitness...

Football chiefs are making difficult decisions. They have no choice when the sporting integrity is threatened. But we now have the problem of the medical advice that we're supposed to be following being derailed by individual bodies making their own decisions.

Sport is a little unique though in that there are very few other circumstances where thousands of people travel to and congregate in a relatively tiny space.thatdberight wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:01 pmFootball chiefs are making difficult decisions. Agreed, but the current way of seeing this through is to let that happen (up to a point at which time I suspect we'll lock down significantly). I understand people making those decisions. I'm just not sure they're helpful to the national management strategy for this.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:05 pmSport is a little unique though in that there are very few other circumstances where thousands of people travel to and congregate in a relatively tiny space.

When this is over and football resumes, I think that the lower leagues will look very different. Most clubs down there rely on gate money to survive week to week and I can see an awful lot of them disappearing altogether.

Given all this, it looks like there will be a lot more infected people with the virus in three weeks time. It is also likely that there will be a lot more infected people in two or three months time. If this is correct there will be no matches until late summer at the earliest.
If a new surge of the virus appears in the winter, next season will also be curtailed. There will hopefully be a vaccine at some stage in the winter. Once large numbers of people start to be vaccinated the medical authorities should be able to get things under control and achieve this 'Herd Immunity' thing.
Possibly one way ahead could be to suspend all matches for a full year and then resume the rest of this season this time next year. I'm not sure how feasible this would be though.
I won't be purchasing a season ticket yet.
There are various estimates regarding when the virus will peak. Most of them say around May-June. ITV are reporting that it could peak within two weeks. Sky are reporting that there could be a mini peak soon, a drop off in the summer and the main peak next winter. All of these agencies are referring to 'scientists'.If these events aren't going ahead in June then the Premier league has no chance of finishing.

Re: Premier League gone surely...
I’d imagine that’s the season over and done with. Things are only going to get worse over the next weeks and months and I can’t see there being time to fit the rest of the season in before August. Wonder what will happen if the season doesn’t restart? The whole season struck from the records (tragic for Liverpool, hilarious for Leeds) or today’s positions being taken as the season end and promotion, relegation, etc based on that?

The TV giants and the like could more than help out.
Without the oldhams. The promotion and relegation. The rags to riches stories. Their ‘product’ is nothing.
Well done Morrison’s for keeping their small business suppliers and customers from facing an uncertain future.

Hard decisions. Hybrid suggestion would be to freeze the tables but not have relegation and promotion.martin_p wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:16 pmI’d imagine that’s the season over and done with. This has a number of advantages from a sporting and financial point of view. None of which matter in comparison to shafting Leeds which is the single most important benefit.

Re: Premier League gone surely...
Here is the EPL statement as shown on the BFC web site.
The Premier League has issued the following statement:
Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.
“In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.”
Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League’s aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.
In this fast-moving environment, further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Premier League clubs might not get what they were expecting this season either.

Re: Premier League gone surely...
Given that this thing is here for at least another 3 months and if the Medics are successful in spreading the case load it could be 6months isn't the most likely scenario completion of this season's games towards the end of the year and scrapping next season's competitions with 2020-21 blank apart from some one off competitions like league and FA cup matches and perhaps another dreamt up competition or a host of friendlies, depending when this season can be completed?
