Cornish Pasty
I never knew Cornish pasty had received protected status from the EU in 2011. It means any product sold as a Cornish pasty must be made in Cornwall, to the genuine recipe. A Cornish pasty must have 12.5% meat and at least 25% vegetable content
Pie and peas are always a meal everyone eats, just 3 of us now but when it was 4 it was the same result, also I do like a Cornish pasty and if I ever get the train at one of the big stations head for there shop and buy several to take home. When I was a teenager, yes long time ago, I remember several of us going on our first holiday without parents to Newquay. I think that was my first Cornish Pasty and even no I remember how much I enjoyed it and maybe it was just that holiday but have never tasted one that tasted as good as they did that week, camping meant no real cooking so pasty's were eaten a lot.

There are pasties in Devon, (where it was first made), so this protected status only applies to the word Cornish and the county of origin. Devon pasties or (oggies) are fine my me. Got to try Ron Dewney's oggies in Guzz (Plymouth).

The price of a pasty at a railway station these days (West Cornwall Pasty Co etc) is absolutely scandalous. Makes a Twix on the Turf look like spare change.

I have to say I DID already know this and I also think it's true that a Melton Mowbray pork pie, HAS to have been made in Melton Mowbray and it's an offence to use that labelling if it hasn't.

never had a pie sandwich
I think it has to be pie and peas tomorrow now, big decision is do I buy or make, never tried to make a Cornish pasty, did make a Fajita Cake on Tuesday for the first time and it was well received!

Yes KateR. She has a routine. Break up pie on sandwich and smear in Mayonnaise. Her preference is steak pie. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it

Cook your meat in the oven with other ingredients, my case was chicken with onions, mixed peppers, salsa, add jalapenos if you like spicy, I also added a tin of corn, not fully cooked but close.
Get a cake tin, flour tortilla on the bottom, line this with fajita mix, add on top another flour tortilla, layer again with fajita mix, add tortilla, make as many layers as you like and obviously cake tin size for how many you are going to serve. Put back in the oven and cook 15 minutes, here I was a little wrong as the instructions are to make start to finish, I made my fajita mix early so when I added was cold.
Remove, cover top with sour cream, fajita cake ready to serve, this one was hot but could have done with being a little hotter, no one microwaved to heat up, 3/4 gone for dinner, hubby took remainder for lunch next day.
Everyone agreed a good meal, not to have every week but a nice change.

Where the egg chasers live, a pie sandwich has got to be the staple diet, but with Mayonnaise that must be a Culinary Masterpiece.
It's times these I realise there's so much more to life than watching the Clarets; perhaps exploring the delights of alternate eating experiences is something I'll do now that my Saturdays have been freed up. Or I might wash the car.

We used to have them when I was at school, a flat potato pie- saucer type, on a teacake/barm cake.....sometimes as a special treat, dairylea cheese spread on teacake too!
