Macca - are you in Virgin Media area? If you are, then say you’re thinking of going over to them to the customer service team! Big price drop!!!
I'll get a big price drop, infact 100% off.
It will be a great deal

MACCA is entitled to spend as much as he likes on SKY without all this negative comment. We all have different ways of spending that others would not countenance.
I'm sure the more street wise person can get it a lot cheaper, but for those who know me, know I'm as far away from techy as to you can get.

All that's changing now though, sky will be getting semi potted, and I'm ditching my Nokia 3210.

I've got sky Q in 2 rooms, the top package, all channels HD, sky VIP member, have the "breakdown type cover" and best broadband they provide with a booster on the top and bottom floor.
Phones with unlimited calls and all the shebang that goes with them.

I've done it so theres no hidden extras or extra call charges etc..
Its basically all in and unlimited use for all the family
So that includes 4 x mobile phone packages?

We'll be cancelling when our current contract is up. I'm sick of doing the silly dance with them every 18 months. There are some new Freesat HDR boxes about to hit the market.

I know I'll miss their football output, but I'm not too bothered about the rest. I used to like the documentary channels, though these days they are mostly reality TV.

We had the full works.
All channels in HD and additional 2 multi rooms (even though only 2 of us in the house

We thought that, other than me watching the sports, we were only watching the “free view” channels so cancelled it all.

We soon realised we watched/recorded quite a bit on Sky One/Atlantic etc so resubscribed to the basic package.

Pay £25 per month for Sky and £40 for IPTV for the year so still have the Sky sports & movies plus a load of box sets and additional movies to watch

If I cancel Sky and go to a Freesat box can you still record, rewind etc with them, also do you get any sports and sky channels on them. My wife likes the odd programme on Sky 1, presumably we won't get that? We do have BT broadband so presumably we'd still get their football via the Freesat box. Any help much appreciated.

I'm hoping to do just this. Then just have my phones to add to the package, hopefully bring the bill down to £90-100 ish

I'm not sure about the channels, but I do know that record and pause etc won't be available. You also can't watch previously recorded programmes. The Sky box turns into a satellite receiver with no other functions.

I cancelled my sky tv package a couple of weeks ago. The sky freeview is better than freeview or freesat in terms of how many channels you still receive but as has been mentioned the sky box is a receiver only. I don't know why sky do this as the box is mine after 20 odd years paying sky and the hard drive is still in the box ready to be used. They even take away the catch up facility which is a free service for tv licence holders. Just sour grapes from sky because I had the audacity to cancel.

There is a new freesat 4k box about to be released so just connect to your sky dish and regain live pause , record 2 programmes etc. I will lose a few minor channels but not to worry, I'll just watch them on my iptv service. ;)

Whilst you are still paying too much, this important fact changes things. I'd like to apologise for thinking you were insane.

I might join you and give them a call too. As I'm on a rolling contract, you'd think I'd get a better deal than I'm currently on.

I imagine sky will then offer those that suggest or do cancel a much reduced rate. Sky will still make enough money to pay the clubs.

Nearly 50% per cent of the EPL revenue comes from overseas broadcasting rights.

The product is too expensive. I reckon we only watch a couple games per week and Soccer Saturday if we're not on t'Turf. I'll be ditching it when the new Arris HDR boxes are out.

Update

I've cancelled sky ( 31 days notice period ) sadly I'm still in my contract regards sky Q multi room and the basic entertainment package, so will need to pay £31 a month until that's up next July.

I'm quite happy with that.

However she did mention I wouldn't need a notice period for sky sports as they can cancel that now due to there being no sports available, so that must apply to everyone.

Secondly they are die to hold talks soon and she suggested if the country goes on lockdown the company may allow you to reduce or cancel your packages out if contract without fees or notice periods due to people maybe having a financial strain due to cut or loss in work/income.

In short my bill now goes down to £31 for TV etc, and mobiles stay at £75, although 1 is due for renewal in june so will hope to cut that down too slightly.

Thanks Macca for the update. I think they will have to offer some form of discount for those currently on the sports package, however, no doubt their contract will be water tight, I have a vague recollection that I'm not in a contract with the but I'll check that, I do know that my deal runs out around 24 April so I'll talk to them before that date.

7decades. There appears to be several numbers but one worth trying is 03337591210. You'll probably still have options to go through but I'd stick with the cancelling options and go from there. I'd be interested to hear if they offer you a good deal to keep it or a reduction going forward. I'm due a call to them in a couple of weeks as my 18 month contract runs out.

He has cost me enough.
We build him his own bedroom, that's more than fair.

I didnt realise how much these things cost not only to buy, but keep.

I could have got myself a brand new motor, or at least a twix every home game!

We've been told that we can't cancel because we are 'under contract'. ******* *****. Sport has just been 'postponed' is their argument.

I'll never subscribe to them again. *****

I emailed them telling them I wished to close my Sky Account and they rang me back (albeit 5 days later) Sky is being cancelled 30 days from the date of my email.... ends on 2nd of May.

I have moved to BT TV still get Sky 1, Sky Atlantic plus others, all Sky Movie Channels, All Sky Sports Channels and All BT Sports channels, able to pause rewind live tv, record 2 different channels and all for 1/2 the cost of full Sky Package.

7 decades. They must be inundated at the moment. You could always email them but you're probably like me and prefer to speak with someone. I think they have a "Live Chat" facility, you could then ask for a call back by a certain time. I found this for customer services which is supposed to be a free call number but it's probably like all lines and busy, might be worth a try.

I bought a renewed BT Youview box from Amazon and it's one of the best things I've ever bought. You can record/series link and pause live TV. A Now TV Entertainment pass for £9 per month will give you access to Sky 1.

Thanks Fretters. I'll look into that along with the Freestat box. Interestingly i received their standard letter (sky) today informing me that my entertainment package goes up by a further £2.00 from April, I know it's not much but it all adds up. I spoke to Sky this afternoon to discuss my contract which to runs out on 26 April, they told me they couldn't discuss it for another 7 days as it's still over the month period, after 7 days I'll try :x to get back through to them.

I have just started my training at Sky in the Value department. At one point today there were 1400 calls in the queue and most of those were regarding sport! It's an unprecedented time at the moment and things are fluid at the moment. I don't know much more than that as I am only on day 2 of training!

I used to pay £80 to Sky. Needed it for thec3d channel, which then disappeared!

One day, my service went down. I rang to get sorted but they wanted loads for a Q box etc. I actually said ok but the appointment was over 3 weeks ahead!

Lasted about a week! The Sportsmania on Firestick and Kodi was all going on, on here. I took the plunge with that and never looked back.

Now have Firestick and a T95Q box and, of course subscribe to the book club!

Fantastic!

I was going to get Virgin Broadband instead of BT. Due April. Pangs of guilt...BT pay my pension and it would be a pain, losing BT Cloud and my btinternet.com email. Last month, BT laid fibre in the road. Today, I cancelled Virgin, ordered BT Halo 1 with 150mb download and 100mb guaranteed, for £27 monthly. That's what I pay now. My phone line has been redesigned, automatically, payg! No more rental!
Love it. Feel better!

The lady I spoke to today said senior Manager meetings were to take place later this week in regard to them being unable to deliver any Sport, or should I say live sport. After a lengthy discussion she asked me if she could put my suggestion forward to her supervisor so that in turn it would (hopefully) get to the decision makers. I told her whilst their contracts with us will be water tight no doubt they'll rely on "force majeure" . Whilst the contract requires us to pay, because they are unable to deliver they are in breach of that contract, the suggestion I had was for them to be reasonable and perhaps to stop (deduct) the monthly amount that we (individually) pay for sport until such time as its re-introduced, once it is they must then contact us to see if we want to add it back on. I think my current package has around £20.00 per month included in the total for sport the rest is for the entertainment and HD package. I can't imagine my suggestion will get anywhere but I hope they will look at everyone's account that pays for sport favourably. It allowed me to have a rant anyway.

No doubt you'll have received the email from Sky today. I've highlighted the sports mention. I'll be cancelling my sport until the live football is re instated.

From Sky:

"While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile, we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels."

FactualFrank. This is it.

SKY

Keeping you connected to what matters, when it matters most

Dear xxx

In such challenging times, we wanted to let you know what we're doing at Sky to keep you connected to what matters, when it matters most.

Our first priority is ensuring our customers continue to get the very best service we can provide. We'd love more people to experience Sky, but for the time being, we're focusing our attention and resources on making sure we do our very best for our existing customers. Whether this is prioritising the calls coming into our call centres, improving our online service, or sending our engineers on visits to your home to keep your services up and running.

With us all likely to be spending more time at home in the coming months, we're also doing a few extra things to make your Sky TV experience even better.

• We're making Sky Go Extra available to all our customers for free, so busy homes will have access to Sky TV on three screens at the same time.

• We're launching three new channels this Spring – Sky History, Sky Nature and Sky Documentaries – providing high quality factual programmes that can help educate as well as entertain.

• Because going out to the cinema may not be possible for a while, we're bringing the cinema to you, by making a range of movies available in your home through Sky Store, on the same day as the global premieres.

• We're bringing YouTube kids and Disney+ to Sky Q in the coming weeks, so you and your family have even more entertainment choices.

• While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile, we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels.

We also appreciate that staying connected is crucial at a time like this, so we're making sure our Broadband, Talk and Mobile services are as reliable as they can possibly be:

• The Broadband, Talk and Mobile networks have been designed to handle high traffic peaks at all times of the day and night and our network engineers are working hard to ensure they are tested, monitored and improved 24/7.

• To make it easier for you to keep in touch with your loved ones without worrying about costs - especially if you are self-isolating or reducing social contact - calls to UK landlines at any time of day will be free for our existing Sky Talk customers from this weekend to the end of April.

• With the prospect of many of us working from home, we want our existing Sky Mobile customers to be able to access the internet without worrying about running out of data. So, we'll soon be adding a 10GB data boost into the Piggybanks of all of our customers, free of charge. This can be shared across all the SIMs on your account.

Thanks for your continued loyalty to Sky. In these tough times, we want you to know that you can rely on us to keep you connected to whatever matters most to you, when it matters most.

Cancelled mine over a week ago.

My reasons are nothing to do with caronavirus. Not enough Premier league football on sky for me, so I am off. Sick of watching the crappy Saturday lunch and Friday night championship games.
I can find better things to waste £66.00 a month on

Thanks Beddie.

They really should allow customers to cancel additional packages such as Sport, inside your online account but they force you to call them up.

FactualFrank.

This is their latest so hopefully we can contact them on line this Friday.

"Pausing Sky Sports during the COVID-19 outbreak"

"Whilst we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will go ahead, if you wish to pause your Sky Sports subscription in the meantime you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 Sky Sports channels.

We are sorry that you are currently unable to pause your Sky Sports subscription online, however, in light of the circumstances we are working hard to introduce this in the coming days. Please check back online from Friday (20 March 2020). In the meantime, please be aware that we have reduced resource in our call centre and we apologise if you are unable to get through to us on the phone."
