National League crowds should be good today

Post by TonbridgeClaret » Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:21 am

Is anyone else going to watch a National League match today? I'm treating Mrs Tonbridge to a day at Eastbourne Borough v Maidstone United (come on you Stones)! The attendances at National League games should be good today, considering there are no Premier League or EFL matches.

I bet there’s no bog roll in the toilets by the end of the match.

The mrs has stockpiled so I'm going to nick a few and throw them on the pitch (like the good old days).

Half the games are postponed. Solihull Moors were postponed last night too.

I can't see the National League and other grass roots football continuing after this weekend i'm afraid.

If half the teams have players or coaching staff self-isolating,then it's just not practical to carry on with the schedule.

The fear outwith the health of the public obviously,is what happens down the line,if EFL clubs are on the breadline,it must be ten times worse in the non'league pyramid,we could be witnessing the biggest shake-up in English football for decades, and not in a positive way.

National League crowds

Flyde-Aldershot 1,668

Dover-Chesterfield 1,214

Maidenhead-Stockport 1,662

Notts County-Eastleigh 4,942

Sutton-Hartlepool 2,126

Seem to be slightly higher than normal, due to circumstances,Chesterfield weren't happy their game went ahead, and i fear that this will be the last regular round of fixtures for some time.

As Sky aren't offering any football, couldn't they show non league games? Obviously BT has the National League rights, but what about National North/South, or Bostik League? I guess the question is how long are those leagues going to be running for, but even a few thousand quid to each club from Sky would help them massively, and it gives the arm chair fan SOMETHING to watch for the money they're paying each month. Saturdays just aren't the same without any footy!

Haha that brought back memories. When did ticker tape and lobbing bog roll on the pitch stop?

This crisis starting to bite already in the non leagues.

I fear this won't be the last club to introduce such measures.

My walking football club has had to cancel all future sessions following pressure from Sport England and their insurance company informing them that they were NOT covered under their liability insurance if they disregarded government advice.
