Absolutely dreadful news, shocking

RIP Peter

(Former teammate Micheal Chopra has tweeted his condolences so I imagine the dreadful news is unfortunately true)

That is not right. No one should die so young.

Awful news, I remember him playing for us. Absolutely no age at all.

Edit, seems there is some confusion over the story - I hope it isn't true.

Still nothing official/ in the mainstream media that I could see. Feels very strange. In fact the whole story feels strange. I hope it's because it's not true.

Very bizarre so sad if true, but there as just been a tweet from a villa fanzine saying I hope he pulls through (intensive care),sad either way but the people who reported he was dead in the first instance need a telling off it’s out of order.

Still nothing official although last night wiki said was a footballer and this morning it says is a footballer so I’m hoping it’s fake news. Bad taste whatever the scenario

BBC are reporting he is in hospital fighting for his life, he is not dead.

I thought the sensible thing to do was to lock this thread given what had been posted on it.

Sadly, it has now been confirmed that Pete Whittingham has passed away.

Possibly one of the best players in the Championship for about 10 years, awful news and I must admit to getting the goosebumps & lump in my throat reading about it.

My heart goes out to his young family, it’s heartbreaking

He had an excellent career at Cardiff. I recall Tony saying [please correct me if my memory is playing me up, Tony] he was apparently incredibly shy.

I've just double-checked and his first manager at Cardiff was David Jones. He presumably helped PW overcome that shyness and realise his potential.
