What are you doing to help others ?
What are you doing to help others ?
Quite a bit of ‘I’m alright jack’ attitude on here. This is a time when you see the true person. Who is doing something good for others perhaps more in need right now ? This is when everyone should pull together and political persuasion should get pushed to one side. I’m packing some bags now to drop off at elderly relatives and will be making a 2 hour round trip for this. Perhaps other losers are helping people they know that aren’t even relatives but can’t get out ?

But, for what it's worth, the local Barton Neighbourhood Watch and Parish Council team are asking for folk to help shop and deliver for the area's vulnerable. I'll be doing that at the end of the week after I've finally finished with a couple of shithouses...........no, not Ringo and his other account, we've got a couple of bathrooms need decorating.
First things first.

Absolutely **** all. Seriously.
I dont feel I’m in a position too. Work is continuing as if everything is completely normal (catering trade). Whilst I’m healthy (what I know) I find it incredibly selfish. There is no way I’m going to continue normally outside of work. No seeing my mother this week. No seeing other friends/family. Whilst I don’t come into contact with the public directly I find working a stupid risk not really worth taking. I haven’t a clue what would happen wage wise if we did shut for a bit but I’ll be comfortable until the later months of the year with changes etc.

Re: What are you doing to help others ?
My grandparents are feeling really down at the moment which is worrying me. I'm calling them and going to do their shopping. Just worries me knowing they're worried. We sent panic buying and still working until further notice but it is very scary.
Re: What are you doing to help others ?
Well I was behind an old lady at the tills in Asda earlier and after they had scanned all her items, she realised she had left her purse and money at home.
It was only £28.32 or something silly like that, so me being the gent I am, of course I helped her put it all back.
The bonus for me was there was pasta and tins that had sold out on the shelves in her items that I needed, so I could take those too.
Just goes to show if you do a good deed, it can pay you back in roundabout way.
We all need to pull together, helping each other in anyway we can.

Doing the shopping for my 91 year old uncle and his bird. Shopping for in laws.
I honestly believe we won't be hit with this anywhere near the extent of Spain and Italy.
Reasons are that the Latins have closer families and live together. They use more cash than we do. Meet and Greet with a thousand kisses. Rarely wash hands after having a ****

This is in no way a joke, but did you see any other pet food whilst you were getting you uncles or was there empty shelves?Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 12:59 pmDoing the shopping for my 91 year old uncle and his bird.
Or was it a pet shop rather than supermarket?
As we went asda earlier and the usual big bags of food we buy our dog had all gone. They last him a month, so we wanted to get 1 just in case.

Informed OAP neighbours if they need anything they can call. They've set up online shopping, seems like a number of older people I've spoken to have had time to get prepared.

Same here - no slots available at all for home delivery from Tesco. Not something I use very often but thought I'd better being stuck in the house self isolating. CT are you in an at risk group? If so, don't risk it. If you live in burnley I am sure we can arrange for someone to get to the shops for you? Yes if possible, maybe a thread for any clarets struggling to get out to buy food?
I’m coming back to Burnley today so I can do my parents shopping because they are self isolating but could probably do a run for others.

Hopefully with all the greedy bastards stocking up for long term, and the supermarkets getting more staff, the 3+ week wait for a delivery will soon be shorter.

Re: What are you doing to help others ?
I live in a small private development, 24 flats in Clitheroe. The vast majority of the residents are over 70, even older and many live alone. Tonight I've placed a poster in the public areas to say that if anyone is having any problems with anything, then contact me, day or night.
I'm quite a bit younger, healthy and have the time available. I don't want a medal, it's just what seems to be the right thing to do.

There is one Asian family that lives on the street where I live and this morning when I got up there was a note posted from the family to say that if we need any help during the Coronavirus crisis, for example shopping, to let them know and they left me their mobile phone number.
And before anyone comments. No they don’t run a chain of corner shops.

Re: What are you doing to help others ?
The local pub, which has been open all week - and which I've been to Weds, Thursday and, finally for a while , tonight - are offering the village's more vulnerable people free meals with free delivery , starting with bangers and mash on Monday and a menu that will vary day to day.
Apparently some local bigwig - no, not me, Ringo - has donated £5000 for the pub's cook and staff to source the ingredients as well as donating disposable plates and cutlery.
We start on Monday and have already got a squad of drivers volunteering to deliver, me and my bro signed up last night.
We knew it wasn't just a pub and so it's been proved. What a hell of a gesture.
