Football Manager 2020
I'm thinking of getting this for the PC, but not played it in a few seasons.
I went on Youtube and it was showing a match being played out - as in, players passing to each other, as opposed to what was on the older versions where the minutes just went by and a goal alert flashed up on screen - is this option still available, so the match animation is turned off?
Or do you have to sit through every game?

Good point. Nothing worse than watching animation for no purpose, just to be able to move on!

I have Championship Manager 93-94 bookmarked:

This and Championship Manager Italia are the Rolls Royce of Football Manager games
In the year 2031, Burnley currently sit proudly at the top of the Premier League, and have 10 internationals in their first team. Oh, and there's a status of me outside the 50,000 capacity ground

I’ve started playing championship manager 01-02 again after years of it in the wilderness. UEFA cup win and 5th place finish in the Prem with Swindon Town is as good as it has got so far.

Re: Football Manager 2020
Used to be a big fan of FM and it's predecessor. Downloaded the latest version for the iPad for £20 a few months ago. Played it for a couple of hours and haven't touched it since. The problem I think with FM these days is it takes itself far too seriously. I'm happy to admit I'm a geek, but FM is built for uber-geeks. They more realistic they make it, the less fun it is. I tried managing Burnley and didn't get beyond pre-season. There were no players who would improve us willing to come. I tried to sign Ferguson from Aberdeen because at least he had potential. When it came to contract negotiations I gave a fair opening offer. Agent came back and said it was insulting and refused to talk to me any further. Like I say, there's a lot of realism with that, but games for most people should be an escape. I just want to pick it up an play. Plug and play tactics that can be tweaked. Bargains available without having to spend literal days using a scouting system. That's what people used to love about the game. Everyone discovered players like Cherno Samba relatively easy and ended up with a superstar leading them to European glory.

Re: Football Manager 2020
All I can say is that when I was at Uni in 2000, I was Forest Green Rovers, my mate was Hayes, and we had spreadsheets out and everything. I'd be calculating the average stats for players in the different positions they could play and plotting them in a grid. Possibly in the uber-geek category!
I'll get around to playing it in the next few days as signed up to Steam.
Can the training be left to the assistant manager? That's the part I've always preferred to leave to somebody else.

Think you can leave a lot to the assistant manager. Even doing that I found it really dull.

Re: Football Manager 2020
Football Manager Touch on PC is the less Uber-geek version to go for. Much easier signing players and to get into a quick game, in an evening could easily get through over a season.
Re: Football Manager 2020
Does anyone know if the mobile version of this is any good ? Think I might have some spare time on my hands in a week or so ...
