Out of contract players
Out of contract players
If the season carrys on into say June / July will our out of contract players be allowed to play as usually these end at the end of June ?
Re: Out of contract players
Yes. They will make rules appropriate for the circumstances.
Of course, some of them may not want to play if they have another club lined up, perhaps.

Re: Out of contract players
FIFA are working on a solution. As dsr says if a player doesn’t want to play for you any more his contract is up.
This is why they want the season completed by June 30th, before this becomes a problem.

Re: Out of contract players
If they delay the transfer window to coincide with whatever becomes the new break period between seasons then surely out of contract players will want to continue getting paid by their current club and would be happy to extend a month or two rather than end up clubless and unpaid for a month or two

Re: Out of contract players
Posted about this on the Magic Money Tree thread yesterday - FIFA has a working party on resolving problems created by the mass hiatus - one of the 3 areas of focus is exactly this problem - there are other issues for players, clubs and leagues which have been covered in a series of legal advisory articles which have been posted on there in the last couple of weeks also.
Fundamental issues for players include (but not exclusive too)
- what if I have a pre-contract that gives me more money elsewhere as of July 1st
- What if I am forced to play for my old club, and pick up a serious injury and that prevents me taking on a new contract
for leagues and clubs it is essentially about maintain the competitive integrity in a season where transfer windows have closed and squads have been set and registered

You don't watch a different Hendrick to me - he's a very important member of the team

Re: Out of contract players
Very much a marmite player, as have many other before him.
He does a job, usually a steady job.
The issue is he rarely is a game changer at either end of the pitch, so doesn't stand out as much as many of the others in the team.
This season has probably been his best in terms of goal/game contribution, but some may say it's a lot easier to do when the team is doing well, and you are playing for your future.
I'd like Jeff to stay personally, but sadly like most footballers money talks and if he can make loads more elsewhere then he will go.
Do we need/want players driven by finance and personal gain? Nope
Ings amongst others got pelters for leaving in similar ways, and they did far more for us than Jeff has. It will be interesting to see peoples reactions when he leaves, and the reception he gets if he returns.

Re: Out of contract players
I maintain Hendrick must be Mcneil's favourite team-mate. Jeff's ability to cut inside to form a midfield 3 gives McNeil much of his freedom

Willian at Chelsea is out of contract in June and has said he will play for Chelsea until the end of the season whenever that maybe - hopefully the rest will do the same

Re: Out of contract players
Perhaps Jeff can be persuaded to stay rather than waste his talents in the wasteland that's Scottish Football
Re: Out of contract players
If I was Jeffs agent I’d be telling him to buy a pen and sign the deal that we’ve offered him. This is no time to be playing fast and loose even as an out of contract footballer imho, the normal rules of engagement do not currently apply.

Could not put it better myself - but hopefully an upgarde incoming whenever the window will be

Our left hand side is deadly, now if we could get a right hand side half as good/creative...

Re: Out of contract players
Here is an interesting one that outlines the issue in a nutshell - Apparently both of Watford's top goalkeepers (Foster and Gomes) are out of contract at the end of June - can you imagine if their relegation rivals signed them up to stop them playing for Watford if the season carries on into July
