Re: 69/70 Season
That is a very nice find!
Happy memories as a child of doing my League Ladder on a Sunday morning reading the write ups in the papers.
It was tricky to do them on a Saturday night as there were usually a few late scores which weren't printed in The Pink.

Great find - I remember these !
Barrow in the play off places in the old 3rd Division. Quite apt with them sat at the top of the Vanarama. I believe they have a bit of money and most of their players are based around Manchester - so much so that they actually train at Hopwood College near Rochdale which is more than a 100 miles from their home ground !!

Was Hong Kong flu in UK 80,000 extra deaths-anyone recall that?

Re: 69/70 Season
Used to have this as well. Interesting to see how many teams on there that aren't even in the league any more (or even, sadly, don't exist). Ironically, I think this was either the first or second season of me starting to go to the Turf (about '68/'69 I think). My first game was FA cup 3rd round - versus Clough's Derby County. 3-1 win I think. They were on their way to winning the old 2nd division. Anyone know the exact year? A feeling it was Jan '68 (ish).
Re: 69/70 Season
That looks like a "shoot" product.
I had my first set of ladders the same season, but all the div 1 and 4 teams were red, div 2 blue and div 3 black.
Anyone know who produced that?

Re: 69/70 Season
Cheers bud. The Swindon games were the ones that brought the brilliant Peter Noble to us weren't they. He was awesome for them in that cup run. And their victory over the then great Arsenal was one of the biggest giant killing acts ever.
Re: 69/70 Season
'Shoot' was my favourite weekly football magazine. If my memory serves me well the two best story threads were 'Raven on the wing' and 'Alf Tupper' who was a distance runner who could only run well after a large bag of fish and chips!

Re: 69/70 Season
The Swindon League Cup games were in December 1968 but we didn't sign Peter Noble until 1973.

Re: 69/70 Season
It was a massive giant killing act but the state of the pitch at Wembley that.day may have played some part in evening up the contest. Think it may have been down to the 'Horse of the Year event having taken place there. Nowhere near to returning home from Crewe in '87 but the disappointment coming home.from.The Hawthorns matched that of coming home from Hillsboro in '74.

Thanks for that Tony, I thought it was a while after but didn't realise it was that long.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:15 amThe Swindon League Cup games were in December 1968 but we didn't sign Peter Noble until 1973.
Re: 69/70 Season
Seem to remember Tiger giving away league ladders in early sixties ? Roy Race and Melchester Rovers etc. Tiger was launched in 1954 so ladders maybe began in the Fifties. I loved em.
