Morrisons
This might stop you wasting an hour, like I've just done.
Spent the best part of an hour carefully selecting items from Morrisons for an online shop. Went to check out, only to be told that there are no delivery slots available in the next 15 days and no options beyond that. How stupid is that? Why are they open online and letting people order, if they can't deliver?
I'm really annoyed about that.

Re: Morrisons
Just had a leaflet through the door from Wellocks. Understandably their normal business has been hit so they are selling to the public ( via pubs I think ) Also Birchalls Food Services doing something similar.

Of course, the other problem is that people self isolating and living alone, don't need much shopping, but the supermarkets still insist on a minimum spend of about £40. That makes things worse as people have to buy things they don't need, in order to get a delivery.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 4:09 pmCrazy situation and the OP is quite rightly annoyed.

Wellocks - I looked at those because I thought it may be a worthwhile way of keeping local business operating. Then i saw their prices and what they were offering.
I think they need to re-think their offering and prices tbh..

I just logged in again and got a different start page. Last time I was asked to 'Start shopping'. This time there was an option to 'Book a delivery' first. However, there are still no slots available.
Still annoyed but what can you do? Still no preferencial treatment for the old and infirm either but at least they are looking after the NHS.

It’s crazy isn’t it. Hope you get sorted out.

I know... Should hang their heads in shame as far as I am concerned.
They are probably a great local employer who do lots of good for the local economy but this service/pricing looks like its opportune profiteering to me with a cover of 'trying to help local businesses going' message attached to it.
I'm not someone who spends with thrift when it comes to food and this left me speechless.
Wonder if they are the ones who supply the club with twix

Re: Morrisons
I managed to get a delivery slot with Tesco but it is not until late Friday evening on 10th April. Don't blame the supermarkets for that, blame the panic buyers who are grabbing the slots as quick as they become available,

£40 easily doable for a single bloke nevermind a family the items you order can be mostly non perishable & stretch for longer than a week, there's no obligation to order on a weekly basis.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 4:14 pmOf course, the other problem is that people self isolating and living alone, don't need much shopping, but the supermarkets still insist on a minimum spend of about £40. Hot tip: Try Whiskas Beef Cat Food, it makes an excellent chilli con carne.
Not only does it taste great but with balanced mineral levels it supports a healthy urinary tract, the zinc content ensures a healthy skin and there are no added artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. The only down side is the constant pestering by the cat as you make it.

Pretty sure the £40 minimum spend is to stop people from taking the mick and placing several small orders per week. Surely your weekly shop exceeds £40 in any case?Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:06 pmYou can't do that every week when you just want milk, fresh veg and fresh fruit.

Re: Morrisons
All the supermarkets should shut and just do delivery service. Putting all staff on them.
Put each street on a certain timeslot and send an artic with 10 staff to deliver to the doors.
I went to Tesco this morning at 10am for a few bits. They had opened at 9am for NHS staff (nice thing to do) but the computer system for the tills wouldn't work until 10am. There was mayhem. Around 20 queues had 30 or so people in each of them.
If one person had it there, thousands could now.

Re: Morrisons
Well run down the perishables & then order when you reach the £40 mark, I understand fresh produce as listed you'd likely require on a daily basis or thereabouts, I also understand there's a reluctance to go shopping & it's far more preferable to remain indoors, every single supermarket is prioritising individual timeslots for NHS keyworkers & elderly & vulnerable to ensure the likelihood of items becoming available. There's far more constructive issues to be sniping & griping about than supermarket minimum spends, the supermarkets are even limiting certain items to a low number per transaction to help people out, there can't do everything.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:06 pmYou can't do that every week when you just want milk, fresh veg and fresh fruit.

So the fact that I'm on that list of vulnerable people due to heart disease and cancer and I live alone, doesn't count eh? Most people's do exceed that, it's done for profitability & efficiency in terms of delivery, if you go over a certain amount or on a certain day/time the slots are free, - subject to different supermarkets & offers.

I pay a few quid a month and get unlimited free deliveries although only order once weekly. If there wasn't a minimum spend I could get my shopping delivered every couple of days which would be ridiculous.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:29 pmMost people's do exceed that, it's done for profitability & efficiency in terms of delivery, if you go over a certain amount or on a certain day/time the slots are free, - subject to different supermarkets & offers.

Re: Morrisons
Yes of course it counts, the supermarkets are doing there best, do all supermarkets have minimum spends or just Morrisons? I don't think Tesco's do but a basket charge of £4 for orders under £25, there's meals on wheels as well who deliver, there's plenty of other options before going without, but by all means you carry on playing the martyr I won't stop you!Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:25 pmSo the fact that I'm on that list of vulnerable people due to heart disease and cancer and I live alone, doesn't count eh? You'd think most would heed the advice of cleaning hands as soon as you've finished in the supermarket, which should reduce some of the risk.

There's too many cases after everyone has been told to wash hands regular to think it's a huge success.
I wore gloves but nobody knows how quick it can spread up the body to the mouth/nose area or how long it can stay on your clothes?
Re: Morrisons
I suspect the majority of those ignoring the rules on social distancing are unlikely to wash their hands regularly any way so there is probably a pattern emerging. They may be the ones getting infected and passing it on to friends and family. The scientific experts still seem to think washing hands often and properly is the best way to stop it spreading.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 7:27 pmThere's too many cases after everyone has been told to wash hands regular to think it's a huge success.

Two days on your clothes according to the tests done. 3-4 days on plastic and metal.

I'm not thinking about myself so much as the general situation. Maybe you are one of the people this virus is unlikely to affect? If so, good for you. Have you been stockpiling? I haven't.

I'll be honest I haven't been stockpiling since all this happened, I haven't been in a supermarket since all this happened, I realise the difficulties people face by research & what my partner experiences whilst she does the shopping, options are there for you in your position it's down to you to use them & nobody else. If you feel no suitable help is available I can easily refer you to people who can help.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 7:58 pmMaybe you should have read the start of the thread. Good post, if the circumstances required he'd perhaps be eligible for home help & helpers getting the shopping in without even moving, I know people who never leave the house & everything is done for them, some don't even leave there bed with a bedpan the helpers assist with latex gloves, must be stressed I'm in no way implying this would be applicable in this particular circumstance, however desperate you become help is there if you ask for it & people are aware you need it.

Re: Morrisons
Thanks to everyone offering help, but at the moment, I'm OK. I was merely pointing out a couple of difficulties with trying to order from Morrisons.
I have looked at both Morrisons and Tescos web pages tonight and neither have any delivery slots available for anyone. Neither are currently offering delivery help for people who are self isolating due to health problems.
Of course, there are other options and the local Labour Party is actually sending someone to my house tomorrow who will do some local shopping for me. (Other political parties may be available on request but they haven't been it touch with ME yet.)
