I’ll start this in a bit I think.
Got sacked at Burnley and then Villa already haha. Beat Ipswich and then Man U away, lost at Blackburn then sacked at Villa out the blue

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
Just got to first game of season, battered Gillingham but just about scraped a 3-2 win at home thanks for 2 goal hero Gordon Armstrong.

Did you apply the update Macca? I have more leagues available than on your screenshot (South Korea between Scotland and Spain).

2nd game 2nd win 3-1 away at Walsall, League Cup away at Bury now, fans are desparate for a cup run as they know the club will need the money as they sense a TV collapse approaching with not many people subscribing to ITV Digital.

Couldn’t get it running last night, will try again on my old laptop later
Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
Nope just those exact settings on the screen Paul.
Tough start for me 14th after 6.had 15 players for start of season so square offs in round holes.
Managed to uo it now to 18, however missed out on both GK, so 3rd choice Pinheiro between the sticks. He's young.
Still 8m to spend so hopefully can add some when I start to climb the league.
Sadly contract rules have passed so cant het any big young signings on lengthy protected contracts

After 4 games, won 2, drawn 2 and sit 5th, though made to many changes at Bury away in cup and lost 1-0 despite subs at HT and much better performance in 2nd half.

Well team is now in place.
Abig win at Man City and toppling the league leaders WBA at Turf Moor propelles Burnley into the top 6, and the Faithful are starting to wonder if this young manager with his young and exciting team can go all the way...
Local message board Up The Clarets and editor Tony Scholes will be speaking to the man at the centre of the praise at the half way stage..

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
Struggling badly defensively, last two games defeats away at City and Forest 4-3 and 5-3. Scoring not an issue, any ideas for tactics to sort this out?

I find the above best defensively, the dcm is crucial.
GK are also a big one, theres not many who get 7.5+ ave rating season after season.
What's your formation and team instructions?
You might be on the custom direct approach rather than mixed/short.
Also I do both my CB as man markers.
I've slipped to 10th after no win in 3 including a loss away to pne, I'll be up there once team gets a bit and youngsters click into place.
I'm only my usysl 1st choice CM and ST off winning it, but their replacements are good enough hopefully
Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
Before you start game go on game settings and select in depth, that's what I did, its below in game sound I think.. as sound also gets annoying so I switch off

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
So just switched formation slightly and remove LB, RB, LM and RM and got a 1-0 win at Grimsby. Formation currently:
GK
DC, DC, DC
DMC DMC
MC MC
AM
ST ST
Very much down the middle, mentality is normal, passing mixed, no pressing, offside trap, counter attack or men behind the ball.
Will set the 3 DC to man markers now see if it helps.

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
I think I played:
CF CF
SM
LM CM CM RM
ANCHOR
CB CB
GK
This would be interchanged by bringing a CB on for the Anchorman, or ANCHOR to CF, or Support Man to CF. Or SM/Anchorman to CM to make it 5 across midfield.
It had several possible position moves depending on how the game was going.

We're definitely on different versions, my starting Burnley squad looks like this, which seems to be the 02/03 squad:

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
5 defeats in 6 games, slumped to 19th in the league included a 4-0 defeat to Preston at home and 4-1 away at Wolves in the last game, fans outside the boardroom after each game and Kilby having a go at me for defending Glen Little. Not looking good, I could be leaving the challenge if I lose away at Watford next, if I make it that far.

Paul think you've got 02/03?
It's not the one we are playing

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
The promotion wheels are in motion, a 6-1 win on the road at Norwich before a 3-0 disposal of 3rd placed Birmingham pits me 3 points off the automatic promotion places.

Well a big win away at promotion chasing Sheff Wednesday, making it 5 wins on the spin sends Burnley to the summit.
The football on show is a joy to watch as the gaffer and influential winger Steven Reid both scoop the monthly awards
Lunch time now, then a walk planned.
No better place to leave it than being top
Bitter rivals Stockport County up next at the Turf..

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
I usually raid the sweedish league but many out of my price range or want really low min release fees , so not worth it.
Is Dunwell, weatherstone or Georcelin any good on yours for ST?
Also Pslacious , Williams and Steven Reid as wingers are all 7.5+ every season. Reid is on 8.2 after 10 games ( got injured ) he might get really, really good.
About to restart my assault on the top now
Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
I'll have a look at said players tomorrow when I get back on it, managed to dodge some release clauses with higher signing fee and wages. Just trying to get a striker or 2 in now altho papa is doing good so far.MACCA wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 2:59 pmI usually raid the sweedish league but many out of my price range or want really low min release fees , so not worth it.

Hard not to, so many bargains, waiting on Kennedy now, bid 1 mill rejected, signed new contract with 300k release clauses I'll have that.

Performance of champions, RB, and back up RB taken out, 2-0 down and then come back.

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
After Burnley beat 3rd place Watford at Turf Moor 3-1 on Saturday it took them 11 points clear of the visitors on what was billed by the Burnley boss as a season defining game.
The clarets turned on the style after falling behind to an early Marcus Gayle goal for the visitors to go into the break 3-1 up, and although both sides had chances in the 2nd half Burnley were well in control and really in no real danger of surrendering not only the lead, but their grip on the championship top spot.
We caught up with Up The Clarets unofficial fans website editor, chief sports reporter and super fan Tony Scholes for his take on his sides blistering start to the campaign that has got the fans dreaming of their first taste of the premier league.
Tony said, "it's been an absolute breath of fresh air to see a young English manager given a chance at this level, and E by gum hasn't he taken that chance.
The football on show has been an absolute pleasure to watch, the mixture of creativity and flair of the more experienced lads coupled with the exciting young players he's developing around them is getting the feel good factor returning to Turf Moor.
It's always 1 game at a time here at Burnley, but theres no reason we can't go all the way and clinch promotion, with the way the gaffer has us playing at the moment."

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
An outpour of emotions were visable for all to see at Turf Moor as Burnley clinched the Championship title in eemphatic style against Gillingham.
A comfortable 4-0 victory, largely down to a hatrick from Michael Dunwell who's own impressive return of 30 in 37 starts clinched him the golden boot ahead of Birminghams Andy Johnson (29) on the final day, will see Turf Moor host Premier League football for the first time in their history

Re: Championship Manager 01/02 UTC group
Did anyone else look at the guides which advised which positions needed what attributes? Example, CB needed heading and I think pace was an advantage. Along with things such as jumping.
I'd have tables of the average of each player in the positions they could play.
Memories of a youthful Cowdenbeath side.

Skalidis isnt on mine, looks a player.
About to start our maiden voyage of the premier league only added 2 new starters , but added some depth to the squad.
Stay with me fans that's all I ask, dont turn on us too early, we are a young side, very cheaply assembled.
We need you now more than ever
Date for you diary, rovers away on 2nd of Nov..

Go into Burnley's reserves and promote Anthony Shandran to the first team (or sign him if you're playing as another team) his finishing is 20, and he starts banging them in straight away. I had an old 01/02 save where Inter tried signing him for £40m.
