Fuel ... price disparities

Whilst not encouraging anyone to travel when they don't need to, it's worth checking around ...

Both the new " Euro-Garages " Petrol Station at the top of Westgate, and the one owned by the " Kay Group " near the Barrowford motorway junction,on Scotland Road, Nelson, are charging £1.179 for unleaded, but it's £1.027 at Morrisson's at Nelson ...

Our local here in Hampshire has dropped overnight from 1.22 to 1.14. apparently as we are self isolating there is now a shortage of storage for fuel!!!

If you're on red and fill up with say, 55 litres, then the difference is £8.36 between Morrissons and the garage 300 yards away !! Not a fortune, but I know where I'd fill up ......

It's the "same stuff" - no difference in quality. All the petrol stations get their fuel from the same refineries. All oil companies buy and sell between each other. depending on their own balances. Supermarkets buy from all the big oil companies.

It is feasible, though not that significant, that some additives are added to petrol at the petrol station, but the supermarkets don't sell "low quality" just the same as everyone else.

Supermarket prices are often lower because (a) they are big sellers, so higher volumes to spread their overheads across and b) refill at supermarket, odds are you will also shop at supermarket - so they price lower to get your shopping business.

You lot get a better deal up there.

Down here in Oxfordshire its lowest at 1.20, up to 1.27 for petrol.

Yet they'll be at the same branded places as you've got up there in the main.

The government really need to look at this.

Petrol 102.9 and diesel 109.9 at Morrisons Welwyn Garden City this morning. I filled up as I only had a 40 mile range left in the tank.

Received a message last night that there is a theory that the virus spreading via the handling of fuel pumps. Advice is to use gloves, tissues and plenty of hand washing afterwords...etc.

About 25p a gallon more than you could be paying or a couple if quid on a tank.....almost a lost pint of beer!

Hmmm 5p on a litre fuel or a beer...

However, you are actually talking about 20p or more per litre now and you could get drunk on the difference.

I think the fuel some supermarkets sell is of a lower octane than most petrol stations.
There was a case a couple of years ago when thousands of cars were struggling to tick over smoothly because of the low octane.
If I remember correctly it was 91 octane which is more or less the lowest a modern engine can run on.

That is strange link, even for that rag. It says it's a social media hoax then follows the item with the following quote from NHS...

I think what they are saying you have as much chance of catching CVD19 from a petrol pump than any other everyday item... follow guidelines where gloves ... wash your hands etc ...

Pretty sure all fuel is 95 octane minimum now.

I got diesel at Asda Trafford Park yesterday at 108.7/l. The Shell at Sale less than 4 miles away was 125.9/l.

Probably minimum of £2.50 per tank, if you don`t need it, then there are various charities you could donate it to.
