Mega rich
Re: Mega rich
Some maybe without the publicity. Besides Giggs and Neville isn't Zaha at Palace offering NHS working staff accommodation at his 50 properties around London.

Re: Mega rich
Guardiola has given a million euros apparently. Abroad Messi has donated similar to Argentina and Barcelona. Ronaldo and Roger Federer same to various. A lot of people may say they can easily afford it but they don’t have to...they could sit it out in their mansions but they giving and giving a lot. Respect.

Re: Mega rich
If everybody who could afford a million donated a few millions each, so millionaires & billionaires it’d apply to, you’d have this crisis sewn up In no time.
Re: Mega rich
Not whilst you have the population density we have. That should really read dense population who do not self isolate and stay home, do not adhere to the 2 metre rule, or social distancing and go around in groups, in reality taking the p**s.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:03 pmIf everybody who could afford a million donated a few millions each, so millionaires & billionaires it’d apply to, you’d have this crisis sewn up In no time.

Re: Mega rich
I’m talking globally, I’m talking about throwing copious amounts of money at scientists to work 24/7, every available scientist working & the research budget into every drug possible no money no obstacle, I should have clarified it wasn’t just the UK I meant, I’m talking about rinsing bill gates & suchlike.
Re: Mega rich
Perhaps "Bill Gates and Suchlike" are already actively looking for a cure and will wait until the "suchlike" who want to "rinse" them are wiped outJakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:15 pmI’m talking globally, I’m talking about throwing copious amounts of money at scientists to work 24/7, every available scientist working & the research budget into every drug possible no money no obstacle, I should have clarified it wasn’t just the UK I meant, I’m talking about rinsing bill gates & suchlike.

They have moved pretty quickly as it is. I don't think money is constraining efforts to find a vaccine or novel treatments.I posted elsewhere on the board but in less than 3 months they have isolated a virus, mapped its structure, developed a method to diagnose infection within a few hours (we still do not know how good it is ie sensitivity and specificity-percentage of false negatives and false positives) and pretty soon to have a test which shows those who have had infection and have antibodies. And looking at the mutations they can tell in some instances where a traveller picked up their infection. That is pretty damn good in my mind.
If they get a vaccine by the end of the year then that would be incredible.

Re: Mega rich
Listening to a chat about this on the radio and they said that it's always the celebrities/sports stars who are expected to dip into their pockets in times of need, it's never the bankers people turn too...
Wonder why the bankers can get away without having to do the same?

I agree generally with the post, in relation to the costs I wasn't just talking about getting the vaccine over the line which in itself will save lives longterm, I was talking about the costs now in relation to the NHS, it's obvious to notice that there's shortages of everything in terms of nurses & PPE & beds eventually, hence recruiting the volunteers which is being discussed now on a seperate thread, more money at this present time would enable more kit, more nurses, more beds, a better standard for the people stricken with the virus, eventually a lack of money will play a part with shortages it's just a question of when, the longer it continues the need will intensify.mdd2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:25 pmThey have moved pretty quickly as it is. Ben Mee got the players to have a whip round last week for the BFC Community Kitchen Foodbank. I don`t know how much it raised, but the club matched it.
Re: Mega rich
I think you overestimate just how much money Bill Gates has. If the US government took every penny he has and started spending it at midnight tonight, they would run out of cash at 8 pm tomorrow.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:15 pmI’m talking globally, I’m talking about throwing copious amounts of money at scientists to work 24/7, every available scientist working & the research budget into every drug possible no money no obstacle, I should have clarified it wasn’t just the UK I meant, I’m talking about rinsing bill gates & suchlike.
How much extra benefit would it be if, say, weathermen started work on coronavirus cures? I suspect that most of the available and qualified scientists are already working on coronavirus
Re: Mega rich
Where are these nurses coming from? You can't turn someone into a nurse just by paying them. Training takes time as well as money. There's no need to obsess about money - the government is throwing vast amounts at it. I suppose that PPE shortages could be addressed by going to the poorer nations of the world and offering them so much money that they might deprive their own nurses of PPE so that ours could have it, but is that really the aim?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:19 pmI agree generally with the post, in relation to the costs I wasn't just talking about getting the vaccine over the line which in itself will save lives longterm, I was talking about the costs now in relation to the NHS, it's obvious to notice that there's shortages of everything in terms of nurses & PPE & beds eventually, hence recruiting the volunteers which is being discussed now on a seperate thread, more money at this present time would enable more kit, more nurses, more beds, a better standard for the people stricken with the virus, eventually a lack of money will play a part with shortages it's just a question of when, the longer it continues the need will intensify.
If there is a shortage of PPE, or beds, or ventilators, or qualified nurses, it's because the people and equipment aren't there. Money isn't the bigger problem here.

Re: Mega rich
There is also the point that Gates has committed about 90% of his wealth to his foundation - it is the largest/richest of it's kind and has been in operation for 20 years - he also persuaded Warren Buffet to add his wealth to it as welldsr wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:45 pmI think you overestimate just how much money Bill Gates has. Leeds players have all taken a pay cut so the club don't have to lay people off

Funny story about Bill. His family went to dinner and his daughter gave a $500 tip. Bill have $5 and was laughed at by the waitress. “You’re the richest man in the world and you gave $5, your daughter gave $500”. Well yes he replied, “I’m the son of a farmer, she’s the daughter of the worlds richest man”.
Somert like that anyway.
