Another new pub under the culvert?

Post by jrgbfc » Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:26 pm

So there's a story doing the rounds on a well known social media page that the old Ladbrokes on Yorkshire Street is going to be turned into a pub. Anyone else heard anything? Think it would be good for the area but you'd have to be a brave man/woman to open another pub round there.

You'd have to be a brave man/woman to open a pub anywhere at the moment

Is that on the corner of Plumb Street and virtually across the road from the Brickys? If so, it used to be a pub called the Footballers Arms. Then became Premier Gas and then the bookies.

I thought that was on plumb street at the other end of Alec’s second hand shop, was there a pub there as well? Lost my bearings and only ever saw photos

Ahhh, I’ll have to ask my Dad when I see him.

Did you ever go in?

I can remember it being there but not sure when it closed down. I never went in.

And the Turf Hotel there in the photo, still going strong.

I went in the Footballers Arms as late as 1967, I think, and I have a feeling it closed sometime after that.

Yeah, that's the one. If it's been a pub in the past might make it a bit easier getting setup.

It’s a protest about the proposed changes to the Education Act that would mean that teachers had to have qualifications irrespective of their years of experience. It affected church run schools in particular. The banner is carried by St Mary’s pupils.

What a bizarre thread to wake up from nowhere,
3 years after the last post, with such an educated answer!

How is the Ruby and Claret? Seems to get busier that the Vintage Claret but that might be due to internal space. I’ve not been in yet.
