Another new pub under the culvert?
Another new pub under the culvert?
So there's a story doing the rounds on a well known social media page that the old Ladbrokes on Yorkshire Street is going to be turned into a pub. Anyone else heard anything? Think it would be good for the area but you'd have to be a brave man/woman to open another pub round there.

Is that on the corner of Plumb Street and virtually across the road from the Brickys? If so, it used to be a pub called the Footballers Arms. Then became Premier Gas and then the bookies.jrgbfc wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:26 pmSo there's a story doing the rounds on a well known social media page that the old Ladbrokes on Yorkshire Street is going to be turned into a pub. I went in the Footballers Arms as late as 1967, I think, and I have a feeling it closed sometime after that.
Re: Another new pub under the culvert?
Yeah, that's the one. If it's been a pub in the past might make it a bit easier getting setup.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 4:14 pmIs that on the corner of Plumb Street and virtually across the road from the Brickys? What was that justice not sympathy banner all about? Were you on the March Bosscat?
Re: Another new pub under the culvert?
It’s a protest about the proposed changes to the Education Act that would mean that teachers had to have qualifications irrespective of their years of experience. It affected church run schools in particular. The banner is carried by St Mary’s pupils.Marney&Mee wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 6:52 pmWhat was that justice not sympathy banner all about? What a bizarre thread to wake up from nowhere,
3 years after the last post, with such an educated answer!

Re: Another new pub under the culvert?
How is the Ruby and Claret? Seems to get busier that the Vintage Claret but that might be due to internal space. I’ve not been in yet.
