Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
Current confined circumstances and dry weather make it the ideal time for me to get stuck into removing green algae from my garden fencing and then recoating it with preservative. I have to make an essential car journey, re care for the elderly, either this afternoon or tomorrow and just wondered if there is anywhere open that I could divert to to buy the necessary stuff I need ?
I know B&Q, for instance, is closed even though hardware stores were on the list of shops allowed to remain open.

Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
As far as I know Barnes of Barrowford/ The Tool Warehouse is still open. Should have that kind of thing on sale, but best to call first

Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
I thought the stores were only open for "essential" items - ie plumbing supplies if have a leak

Rightway at Brierfield lights is open (old Greyhound pub) Strictly three customers at a time and the staff are all geared up in masks and gloves. The hardware shop at Padiham (the top one) was open yesterday. Things are changing so quickly I'd check first. As for using Algon -- it's acetic acid, you might as well do a strong dilution of white vinegar....

Not trying to be a party pooper but isn’t this the kind of inessential travel we’ve been advised to avoid?
Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
The op did say he will buy it whilst on an essential outing to be fair. We've got to have things to occupy us or we'll all go mad. I'm slowly turning into Ben Gunn !

Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
I know. But I’m sure we could all make detours on our ‘essential’ trips which could cause us to come into contact with more people. I just don’t think a trip to the local DIY store to pick up algae-remover for a fence fits into the ‘essential’ category. Like I say, not trying to be a party-pooper but if everyone was making these non-essential shopping trips then we’d be in a spot of bother.
Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
Fair point. It's a weird world we are living in, isn't it !

Perhaps order it online and have it delivered?Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 12:11 pmCurrent confined circumstances and dry weather make it the ideal time for me to get stuck into removing green algae from my garden fencing and then recoating it with preservative. There’s only so much of “doing nothing” you can do though
With people being able to go out, socialise or exercise, doing a spot of DIY could make all the difference in their mental health.

Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
1,324 at a guess it's a very popular store. Mind you I'm not great at ' guess the gate' so I could be miles off.

Lanlee & Barnes of barrowford & Pendle DIY were open, but if you are looking for black masonary paint no such luck, wasn't through want of trying.

Hasn't helped Mrs Hattricks mental health.
I decided to paint the kitchen ceiling this morning. Dropped the can from t'top of t'stepladder. Covered everything including Mrs H with 2 1/2 litre of Matt White.
She's been sat there sobbing ever since, Never seen anyone so overcome with emulsion.

No I haven't, I might ring merrit & friers up in Skipton & enquire, pottering about down the allotments I've found a tin of bitumen paint in the shed, I'm not sure whether to give that a go on stone even though it's meant for felt.

Everywhere I've visited have been conscious with the graphic tape set out onto the floor seperating customer distances, lanlee is ok for certain things as mentioned, yesterday when I asked for masonary paint the shop assistant said it's more fencing paint there stock the place seems to be more wood orientated with supplies than building & construction.

How many non-essential trips to DIY shops have you made? Seems like you've been all over East Lancashire.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 9:08 pmEverywhere I've visited have been conscious with the graphic tape set out onto the floor seperating customer distances, lanlee is ok for certain things as mentioned, yesterday when I asked for masonary paint the shop assistant said it's more fencing paint there stock the place seems to be more wood orientated with supplies than building & construction.

1 trip was enough combined with stopping for essential shopping, rather than maximise exposure I'm trying to be sensible, unlike some people emptying the shelves & leaving people with nothing..TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 9:37 pmHow many non-essential trips to DIY shops have you made? I hope nobody else is being as sensible as you.
Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
Bitumen might do it. It depends where and what you are painting. But you would probably have to do it with bitumen next time because normal stone paint wont stick to it!Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 12:08 pmNo I haven't, I might ring merrit & friers up in Skipton & enquire, pottering about down the allotments I've found a tin of bitumen paint in the shed, I'm not sure whether to give that a go on stone even though it's meant for felt.

Quite amusing, although a little concerning, that some people obviously think that it’s acceptable to be making trips to hardware stores to buy masonry paint and algae treatment for DIY projects. Do you not understand what you’ve been instructed to do?

Yes of course, as I've already stated I needed other essential items besides the paint, it's mindful to remember the DIY stores are permitted to remain open as their are classed as essential containing some essential items people would need in the event of a crisis, which so happens is exactly what we've got here.

I wasn’t just referring to you. The OP clearly wasn’t shopping for essential items. Interested to hear what necessities you visited numerous hardware stores to purchase though if you’d care to share?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 11:18 pmYes of course, as I've already stated I needed other essential items besides the paint, it's mindful to remember the DIY stores are permitted to remain open as their are classed as essential containing some essential items people would need in the event of a crisis, which so happens is exactly what we've got here.

Convenient. Travelling around numerous hardware stores to buy masonry paint for a DIY project is not complying with the government ‘advice‘. Neither is ‘pottering around’ at the allotments You can tell yourself it is if it makes you feel better though.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 11:28 pmLike I've already said it's personal, I'm taking all the necessary precautions & complying with all the government advice to stop the spread that's all you need to know.

You are allowed 1 form of exercise per day I walked to allotment & found the tin of paint in my shed & walked back home, pottering basically was shuffling a few items about the paint was underneath some other items. You are allowed to resource essential items, I do everything by the book.

Re: Hardware stores : open Burnley and Pendle ?
Algon is the best algae remover on the market. I use it on walls, patios, decking and brickwork.Hendrickxz wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 3:59 pmRightway at Brierfield lights is open (old Greyhound pub) Strictly three customers at a time and the staff are all geared up in masks and gloves. You're not using it correctly. If applied properly it also stops it returning for arounnd 4 to 6 months.
Just used it on a pebble dashed wall. Excellent results.
