Extinction Rebellion- 30 day free trial
With the world in crisis, potentially 100s of thousands , if not millions about to, tragically, lose their lives.
‘Extinction Rebellion’ poster says ‘corona is the cure, humans the disease’
https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/25/extincti ... -12457392/
The posters were shared on Twitter by a group claiming to represent XR East Midlands, with the caption: ‘Earth is healing. The air and water is clearing. Corona is the cure. Humans are the disease!’
If it were ever needed. This proves that we should not be taking a blind bit of notice from these eco-freaks , that once existed on the periphery of society and have now infested the mainstream.

Although I don't agree with them, they do have a point about what humans have done to this planet.

There are 25,000 deaths to date and most of the world is in lockdown. There will not be millions of deaths so stop exaggerating Ringo.
Humans have a lot to answer for but the message by XR is a bit crude and certainly not in good taste at this moment in time.

Re: Extinction Rebellion- Disgraceful
I suspect the X-R poster is not the only one who has been quietly thinking the same. As long as he isn’t excluding himself and his loved ones, I don’t see a problem with the theory. Mother Nature fighting back against the problem of over population...
This is the perfect opportunity to reset the balance. It won’t happen though, it will be BAU exploiting and abusing what’s left of the planet in no time at all.
Not a popular opinion, but has credibility none the less.

Re: Extinction Rebellion- Disgraceful
Awful framing on the message. But the message is very very clear. We need to change or expect more of this kind of stuff. Cannot believe how unskillful they were at delivering the message, as Ringo said it just makes people hate them and thus, ignore the message. It is very true that the earth will benefit from the slowing down of society, an undisputed fact. Framing is essential though.

Re: Extinction Rebellion- Disgraceful
The message/posters are from not from ER and if people read the full article they state the following
‘This account is not managed by Extinction Rebellion UK or Extinction Rebellion East Midlands, and these messages are in no way a representation of the principles and values held by the movement and so are not the movement. We are investigating this now.’
On top of that all other official ER regional groups have condemned the message and reiterated it is not representative of their values
Ringo has conveniently missed out ER's comments though to be fair he has linked the full article so people jumping onboard and criticising have no excuse except that they are prepared to believe anything that some bloke types on a football messageboard

Re: Extinction Rebellion- Disgraceful
Did we not have several global pandemics before the industrial revolution? I'm sure I read about 1 that killed between 25% and 50% of the world's population in the 12th or 13th century. There was even one called the Plague of Justinian with some historians believe the plague was one of the deadliest pandemics in history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 25–100 million people during two centuries of recurrence, a death toll equivalent to as much as half of Europe's population at the time of the first outbreak. Like the current pandemic this also originated in China!Dante.El.Chunk wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 1:18 pmWe need to change or expect more of this kind of stuff.

Not really. Extinction Rebellion are very vocal and upfront about the disruptive and controversial activities they undertake.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 2:11 pmThey would say that - plausible deniability- bit like Sinn Fein and the IRA
In this case lots of different branches of the organisation who operate somewhat independently have all distanced themselves and stated the group claiming to be ER are not known to them.
Re: Extinction Rebellion denies poster.
Pretty much the whole article is XR condemning the poster and stating the twitter account is not one of theirs. Yet we get this thread title.
Oh, and its quite likely that yes, less people will die this year due to a reduction in pollution than in normal years, so basically our current economic practice / way of living is worse than a global pandemic.
“I'm tired of this back-slappin' "isn't humanity neat" bu****it. We're a virus with shoes.”

From the sound of it - ER refusing to acknowledge - it’s more likely a group of right wing troublemakers.

So, what does everybody think of their 30 day free trial of the future brought to you by Extinction Rebellion?

Brian Cox was on TV this morning talking about the environment. Due to the current measures around the world pollution levels have dropped so much that we now have a far cleaner earth.
Do people want cleaner air?
Re: Extinction Rebellion- Disgraceful
I think most people do, but they aren't willing to give up things like cheap flights or fast fashion, so that's that. One positive that may come out of this is a reduction in air travel. Flying needs to go back to being something people do once a year, rather than being able to fly all over Europe because it's only 30 quid.

Re: Extinction Rebellion- 30 day free trial
I think the opposite will happen.
Clearly, a few people will have taken a financial hammering through this but, on the other hand, many people are saving and there are also those virtually untouched by Covid 19.
I think any let up in travel restrictions will lead to many cheap seats being offered by ailing airlines and a mad rush to get them.

Are the thousands of human beings who have died due to the virus not part of ' the environment' ?
Re: Extinction Rebellion- 30 day free trial
I think a lot of people may veer on the side of caution and just holiday in this country if they can. I don't think I'd be rushing to fly anytime soon, with the prospect of extra airport screening and restrictions in place etc.

Even better chance of getting away abroad if folk do opt to holiday in the UK ?
I do doubt that, though, we've got to be looking at September before we're anywhere near freedom of movement on that scale. Whitby's getting bloody cold by then...

Of course people do.
But, if it means living in a subsistence level, feudal dark age , which is where extinction rebellion would have us. Its not going to run with all but a few enviro zealots, who, if they had to spend 5 minutes without the latest smart phone would lose the will to live.

So would I, but unfortunately lots of people wouldn't be. It needs forcing on people by more expensive flights, etc. Being able to fly to Spain for 30 quid is convenient, but its destroying the planet.Heathclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 12:13 pmI’m more than happy to give up cheap flights and fast fashion for a cleaner Earth.

You're going to have to explain to me how you can give a like to a post which claims ER protestors are anarchists whilst also yourself claiming they support feudalism. You sound like you don't have a clue what any of those words mean, though I'll admit, that's typically on-brand for you. Anarchism and feudalism are about as antithetical to one another as can be.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 12:08 pmOf course people do.

Plus, I did not claim ER consciously "supported feudalism". I said "it's where they would have us."
So at least going forward, when I, inevitably, make an arse of my myself. You can claim to be something of a trend setter by, as you've just done, getting in there first!
Thank you and well done.
Re: Extinction Rebellion- 30 day free trial
Feudalism isn't a place, it's a social system, so saying "it's where they would have us" doesn't make a lot of sense. Did you mean something like, 'extinction rebellion's ideal social system is feudalism', or 'extinction rebellion's goals would bring about feudalism?' In which case, do you know what feudalism is? Do you know what Anarchism is? Do you believe extinction rebellion to be feudalistic or anarchistic, or neither, or both? Do you know it can't be both? Would you prefer if I did the boldface yes/no thing that you're fond of? Why are you so fast and loose with language you don't understand? Why do you double down on your errors? Why do you tie yourself in knots and flog dead horses? What if space is actually one-dimensional, and all higher dimensions, and all the matter in the universe is the product of spacetime wrapping itself into an almost infinitesimally large number of almost infinitesimally small quantum knots, from which strings form and vibrate, and from which matter is produced? What if this means that when you tie yourself in knots, matter emerges from inside that empty head of yours, giving the appearance that you're incredibly dense?RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 2:21 pmIt may come as a bit of surprise to you but, I can "like" whatever post I like. It's rather silly to ask for examples of racism when the mods have already removed posts that offend in such a way.
It's like being guilty of eating something you shouldn't have, and denying it by saying "show me examples of what I've eaten". They'd already be in your digestive system.
