End of season place position bonus

Post by Bfc » Fri Mar 27, 2020 8:09 pm

IF the season has to be concluded now, what are your thoughts on whether we get paid, as it stands. Whether the clubs share it equally, or a portion of it should be paid, as the TV companies have not had the benefit of showing all the games they may have been contracted to.

Fairest way would be to pay it based on last seasons finishing positions with the three promoted teams sharing the payment for the bottom 3 placings

Or pay it based upon where teams actually finish, be that now , or by some miracle if all 38 games get played.

I think every club should be paid as though they finished bottom ,and the rest dished out lower down the leagues to help them out

Fao Nighty this is a great suggestion but I cant see the top clubs sharing their largess anytime soon
I can see a lot of lower league clubs going bust
Before the Covid 19 outbreak some were barely surviving and very rocky financially

If the season ended today the bonuses should be based on the current table less any potential refunds paid back to tv etc which I doubt there would be. It’s a league. Prize money is performance based and clubs set their budgets accordingly

If the season ends today and the tv companies are refunded their £760m it is unlikely that bonuses will be paid (mainly because it is only 4 weeks since the last interim distribution payment to clubs and they will not be able to get it back) bonuses are only paid on the completion of the season.

In some ways that would serve the big 6 right for altering the distribution model for overseas rights - these clubs are also unlikely to get the TV appearance monies as well for the same reason.

You will also find (and a lot are forgetting this) that Parachute and Solidarity payments to the EFL and Academies may be affected this summer should the rights holders demand refunds from the Premier League. That will cause a huge furore

What is going to be worth watching on the other side of all this is how distribution models are affected - All levels are going to want more but rights values could easily stagnate or drop. This is why I have repeatedly said that now is the time to put in better rules and practices.

You could say this about some Premier League clubs, and if this pause goes on 6 -12 months then all clubs will be in distress, including ourselves I would think. I lot of good work on and off the pitch come to nought and could see us as financially troubled as when ITV Digital crashed.
