Yesterday I opted to close two threads because I was sick to the back teeth of having to intervene all the time with all the bickering that was going on. I just thought it was best to close them. It was not a decision I took lightly but I'm trying to keep the board as best as I can for everyone.

Then today, a brand new poster registered and posted three times, on three different threads, with exactly the same comment, having a go at me, accusing me of taking sides. What he didn't realise was new posters have to have their first post approved now so his posts didn't get through.

But, lo and behold, and existing poster has just emailed me with exactly the same comments and guess what - new poster and existing poster using the same IP address.

I appreciate these are difficult times for us. I'm suffering with my mental health right now being stuck at home on my own day after day. But it is about time people started showing each other some respect. There's been a lack of it on here in the past few days and it will not continue. Should it do so, then new rules will be in place very quickly.

So sorry to hear what's occurring Tony, I think its admirable that you have acknowledged publicly that you are struggling right now...stay safe and well fella.

I can only echo what other people have said. Nobody needs the extra stress of moderating the excesses of this board, which can be a good outlet for stress or boredom in these strange times. We need to be self policing. If a post riles you, do you have to reply to it ? Can you let it go? Does it matter ?

I think everyone's had fair warning now.
Just ban people who continue to argue

Quite agree....it's one thing to use facts and logic but the abuse and point scoring is tedious. It's unreasonable to expect CT to make detailed judgments all the time....we can't complain if he starts dishing out summary bans and suspensions on limited evidence.

Just logged in to support the request to keep the political threads open before I saw this thread (so my like for that request is not at all a dig at CT).

I am baffled by eddie's comments, as eddie seems to enjoy and indulge in the point scoring as much as anyone.

Sorry to hear that CT is having a hard time. I hope people stop complaining and stop messing about with new / fake accounts.

It's not that difficult to ignore the political threads if you don't like them. It is not that difficult to ignore the posters whose opinions / comments you tend to dislike. I hope some latitude can be given to keep open the political threads to keep those of us who like them entertained - especially now that we all have to spend so much time at home.

If I may defend myself, android, seeing as you've named me personally, I'd just like to admit yes I do get suckered into the stupid bickering, bickering which inevitably becomes personal. The personal stuff doesn't hurt but when it becomes incessant - even happening when I'm not even online - it is difficult not to be provoked. I've even had "two" posters, using the same address possibly, criticising me for posting specifically to skiers about skiing. Or dragging up posts made six months ago.
To be fair, I did say to two of these people last week that I would defend myself and/or report the abuse and thread-wrecking. Plenty of warning was given yet ignored. Their choice.
I'm quite happy to let the political shouters use other outlets to discuss their issues and let this board have a fresh start. If you're that bothered about endless, pointless political discussion - nobody ever changes their mind, do they - find another site that specialises in doing just that.
Absolutely my last point on the issue ;
All those wreckers of threads, the yah-boos very rarely, if ever, post any new topic, anything interesting, themselves. They leave it to others, sit on the sidelines, snipe, repeat, regurgitate, snipe, repeat, regurgitate ad nauseam.
Tony's dead right to say enough is enough.

Thank you Tony and all the best, we may be in isolation but there are things out there to help us. Only found out by tapping the video icon on WhatsApp that you can see people as you talk with them. Managed a 30 minute conversation with my brother in Spain this afternoon.
It will be a relief now to post freely in the knowledge my posts won't be undermined.

This forum and website is a great resource for Clarets from all over the world, especially during these troubled times, the variety of topics discussed is also what marks this forum apart from many other footy boards. And i'm certainly not alone in having intense debates on the political threads.

However for some reason a small number(and it is a small number) of posters can't refrain from indulging in name-calling,baiting and trolling, and it's not only on the political themed threads either, they manage somehow to argue on the most mildest of topics, for some bizarre reason.

Whether having a football only board would work IDK,there's a danger of some users switching off if they're inundated with just footy discussion, and you'd likely still get the same issues.

Heated debate is to be encouraged, but personal insults are totally unnecessary, and we all occasionally slip up,and type before we consider the reader who's receiving the message,i'm guilty of this as much as others, but there is a vast difference between this, and the regular suspects who continually ruin decent threads,or post totally off-topic,or indulge in endless mud-slinging,and snide comments.

I'm sorry to hear that CT is having to cope with this childish nonsense from a minority, particularly at a stressful time for all of us and our friends and family, this forum should be a place where people can socialise and have intelligent discussion, and also engage in light-hearted banter,to wile away the long hours while most of us are stuck indoors,it would be a shame if a handful of contributors spoilt it for the majority.

A quick message to CT and the mods, your efforts are appreciated, and first and foremost keep yourselves and your loves ones safe.

Sorry you're having a hard time of it Tony. I too appreciate all you do to make my exiled fandom richer and better.
I will also try to restrain myself on Political threads.
After reading your post, i was very surprised to see the Donald Trump topic still unlocked. I must have missed something.
Feel better Tony, you are very much appreciated!

Wishing you the best of health, Tony ... I'm sure the silent majority on here would back you in removing anyone who tries to register under another name, repeatedly, whilst banned !

You, and others, clearly put a lot of work into enabling this forum to function, more power to your elbow ....

Tony's dead right to say enough is enough.
If I had seen this thread before the other one about not locking threads, I probably would have stayed on the sidelines. I don't know CT but I appreciate his work and have no wish to cause him grief. But I don't get why anyone needs to bother CT with complaints about petty bickering. It seems to me that there will likely be arguing and point scoring on any topic and - well , what Fenwick said above - let it go.

But here is my beef with you Eddie. It seems to me that you have been complaining to CT about Ringo and yet, the stuff you have dished out to Ringo is as bad as anything I have seen on here. There was your bizarre attempt to diagnose (wtf!) Ringo as autistic. It seemed to be water off a ducks back to Ringo but - well let's just say it might not have gone down so well with any poster with actual personal experience of autism. You now seem to have turned your attentions to Kate and mentioned the threat of a ban for her - right after accusing her of pointlessly regurgitating garbage and being particularly silly - a change from mocking her English I suppose. I just don't see how you are in any position to complain about others and take the high moral ground given your own posting history.

I hear what you say about other sites but I don't have any other sites! You are right that no-one ever changes their mind (*) but I do pick up useful information from here (even from AndrewJB - sorry Andrew). I would be very sad if we lost the political threads and I take pride in the fact that so many of my fellow Clarets are so well informed and represent a wide cross section of views.

* I did actually change my mind not so long ago on a political matter partly as a result of reading this message board !
