I remember this as the first book about Burnley, written, of course, by Jimmy McIlroy. For a long time it was the only book about our club, but nowadays there are numerous publications. Does anyone know just how many have been published to date. I have quite a number but by no means all of them.

Hell of a lot. After Jimmy Mac's there was Bob Lord's too but I think the next one my have been Up the Clarets (good title) by Rev David Wiseman in the early 70s. David is still around.

Now we have Dave Thomas, Tim Quelch, Mike Smith and Peter Haworth who have all written books in more recent years. Add to that player books that have been published in recent years. I have quite a few but nowhere near all of them. Have got a copy of the new Bob Lord book which I've now started reading.

"Right Inside Soccer" was 1960, "My Fight For Football" was 1963.

Before that, Tommy Lawton published "Football is my Business" in 1946, but I don't expect we got too much of a mention in that.

David Wiseman is a good friend of mine and is still an avid Claret

I have the David Wiseman book 'Up the Clarets!' The first book I read cover to cover (and one of the few still today).

I've still got my Right Inside Soccer, signed by Jimmy Mac himself. Still is a treasured item to me as a reminder of the greatest player I have ever seen play for Burnley.

In the 60's I had Kenneth Wolstenholme's Book of World Soccer.
He was gushing about African's playing football. He predicted Ghana might one day win the World Cup.

Wrong so far, however he was certainly right about the growth of African nations and world class players.

About ‘64 i climbed up in the attic to see what they’d got me for Xmas. KWs book was there, I’d read it before Xmas. I remember an article, with loads of photos, where some lucky lad had been given a ground tour of WHL by Danny Blanchflower.

Dave Thomas' "Harry Potts : Margaret's Story" is a darn good read.

I have 2 versions of Right Inside Soccer. The first, which I consider to the official one, has a Claret and Blue frontcover theme,with McIlroy kicking a ball and the fold of the book is written in Blue on Claret. The other one, shows drawings of action shots of other sportsmen. It's smaller in size, but has the same number of pages. Thats been produced by the London Sportsmans book club. Again it's in Claret with Gold very small lettering on the fold.

Before Burnley FC books were being written, the club in the 60s used to print a yearly soft back fact booklet,on all things Claret. They were always a good read and contained a good selection of photos of the team and a group photo of all professional players and coaches at the club. Some with the directors and Bob Lord.
