Remembering Ian Britton

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Mar 31, 2020 4:17 pm

I've been reminded this afternoon by one of his former team mates that it is four years today since Ian Britton lost his battle against prostate cancer.

Really good bloke who also scored a reasonably important goal for us, sadly missed.

I don't think anybody would disagree with your top 4 BFC goals ever, CT.
As you point out, their order of importance is a matter of debate, but they have to be the four.
Now, what would the fifth be, I wonder ?

A European Cup or Fairs Cup goal, perhaps...

Got to know him pretty well around 86/87 when he lived in Accrington. Really unassuming down to earth guy. RIP Ian.

I think it was QPR away must have been about 10 years ago. Me & Mrs Aclaret went down for the weekend staying at the Chelsea Hotel, I was wearing a BFC polo shirt stood at the bar, I turned around and there was Ian Britton. He was in the Hotel for a Chelsea reunion, I couldnt believe how excited he was to see a Burnley fan at the bar, he couldnt stop smiling, i told him it was a bigger shock for me, a Burnley fan to bump into Ian Britton :D He sat with us for about 15 mins or so talking Burnley Football. What a great man Ian Britton, he made my weekend. RIP Ian.

How strange. I've been for a walk today and called into the cemetery in Barrowford where I noticed his memorial stone.
I miss Ian, great bloke.

I had the pleasure of his company on a night out in Burnley early 2000s. Genuine, unassuming and all round nice bloke. I bought him a pint as a token of my thanks for what he did for my club. We as Burnley fans remain in his debt for where our club finds itself now. RIP Britt

Awful for his friends and family to lose him at such a young age.

Saw him outside that pub in Barrowford one sunny eve.....so just went and bought a pint and took it across to him.

Big smile and a quick chat, just said he’d never had to buy a pint since that goal...
