There will be larger companies & brands than Spurs cutting wages.

Timing was unfortunate given that their 2018-19 accounts were made public at companies house just before the announcement - showing a £3m bonus paid to Daniel Levy

They would save a hell of a lot more if they cut the playing staff wages by 20%

Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
You have to question when an organisation has posted profits over the last two years totalling north of £150m only less than Liverpool and has the lowest wage to earnings ratio in the Premier League of less than 40%, are owned by a billionaire tax exile and yet swiftly announce furlough's and wage cuts for non-football FTE'sFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 4:58 pmThey would save a hell of a lot more if they cut the playing staff wages by 20%
EDIT just checked - that over two year net profit figure is £170m+ or £270m+ operating profit

I also saw that they said they were going to apply for government funding through the furloughing scheme to pay some of the wages. Personally I find it morally appalling to be using public money to subsidise wages when you have a group of footballers who, let's face it, are being paid ridiculous amounts of money. But that's Spurs all over. Levy would sell his own mother.

Yes, his "normal" pay was £4 million on top of which was the £3 million bonus (tied up with the stadium completion).Chester Perry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 4:56 pmTiming was unfortunate given that their 2018-19 accounts were made public at companies house just before the announcement - showing a £3m bonus paid to Daniel Levy

Bet that little Kent Dele Ali won't take a pay cut any time soon. These strange times could really see a lot of fans falling out of love with football. The void is getting even bigger between players and the fans who pay their wages either by turning up or subscription tv or both.

It’s distasteful and in fact disgusting. I quite like Spurs as a club but this cannot be allowed to happen.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 5:09 pmI also saw that they said they were going to apply for government funding through the furloughing scheme to pay some of the wages. Simon Jordan talks a lot of sense.
If the PL had an ounce of moral fibre they wouldnt allow it to happen.

The club is owned by that parasite billionaire Joe Lewis, through his investment firm Tavistock. According to The Sunday Times Rich List in 2019, the 83-year-old has a net worth of £4.358bn. He lives in a tax haven and made a large chunk of his fortune by currency trading on Black Wednesday back in the nineties.
Now the tax payers of this country are expected to bale him out.

As the founder of Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic airlines, Richard Branson is a business mogul sitting on a cool $5 billion fortune. Although he hails from the U.K., his primary residence is on Necker Island, an island in the Caribbean that he purchased for $180,000. Branson has repeatedly been accused of escaping to Necker Island as a way out of paying taxes due to the lack of income taxes there, but the Virgin mogul has denied this.
“I have not left Britain for tax reasons but for my love of the beautiful British Virgin Islands,” Branson wrote on the Virgin website in 2013, according to The Telegraph.
Yeah right!
Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
One of my clients that has annual profits of about $10bn and about $5bn of cash reserves told us today that we were going to have to cut our fees as they were making cuts in their budget.
Football clubs are no more culpable than other businesses in this.

Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
It’s pretty reprehensible for sure but looking at our accounts today and the fact that we must have going on for 300 staff employed by the club now - let’s hope that this is not a route that we will be going down.
As for the other clubs who have furloughed staff how they can go down this route when the vast majority of their revenues have not been lost (yet) is abusing the spirit of the scheme.

Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
Absolutely - the issue should be about cash flow only at this time - no Premier League club has lost large amounts of revenue relative to overall budget at this point. In fact if the season is completed clubs may lose no more than 5% of their income in match day hospitality, events and retail.TVC15 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 12:18 amIt’s pretty reprehensible for sure but looking at our accounts today and the fact that we must have going on for 300 staff employed by the club now - let’s hope that this is not a route that we will be going down.

The big ones will lose more by missing their summer tours - Utd were supposed to get £16m for a game in India this summer

Great piece on this by Dan Roan on BBC site, basically this could turn out to be the biggest PR disaster of all time for the Premier League

Mike Ashley was the first one to put all non playing staff at Newcastle on the tax payers furlough scheme.
Absolutely disgraceful. I think he will have a shock as the government will not approve some requests

The thing is, football is very tribal. The only reason supporters of clubs like Man U and Man City want the league cancelled is to stop Liverpool claiming the title - nothing more, nothing less.Pimlico_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 7:11 pmI've been saying this for a while now, whether due to the above, or just realising that there are other options in life. Once this dies down a bit in the winter months fans will be back watching their own clubs as the vast majority will need their footballing fix.
Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
Leeds players agree to defer their wages
Messi with 70% cut in his wages
Juventus players doing their bit
Would be good if Burnley can take some initiative here but at least we are not doing what Spurs, Newcastle and Norwich have done.
Daniel Levy is on £7m a year and the average Spurs wage is £70k a week and they have the arrogance to ask for tax payers money for the furlough scheme.
Hope the government step in here - I know there is bigger things to deal with but the message this sends out from football is terrible

Its certainly wasnt a "tough choice" for the multimillionaire Branson.deanothedino wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 6:01 pmI get that it's in fashion to bash Branson but come on... However, given he made that "choice", he should not expect the taxpayers he left behind ( many of whom are on minimum wage, temporary, insecure contracts,) who use the NHS. The same NHS , that would have benefitted from the millions that his "choice" denies it. To bail him out when he gets his diamond encrusted, 24 carat begging bowl out.
He "chose" to leave. He should remain so.

He has. However, Virgin Atlantic isn't owned by Branson wholly and is in the UK (though didn't pay any tax as it didn't make any money).RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 11:24 pmIts certainly wasnt a "tough choice" for the multimillionaire Branson.

Branson owns some of Virgin Group, Virgin Group owns 51% of Virgin Atlantic. Virgin Atlantic going under will hurt the employees far more than it will hurt a part owner.

I mentioned on the other Sajid Jarvid thread yesterday that due the spectacular own goal by Premier League clubs what is to stop the Govt introducing a 60% tax rates for salaries above say £200k which would hit Prem footballers. Whilst that may not turn out be the case it seems that something will happen as an essential MP on Culture committee has wrong to Rishi Sunak demanding a windfall tax from those Prem clubs who plan to furlough staff, the danger of this is that this could quite easily be expanded to clubs like ours that are doing the right thing will be penalised because of the way other clubs have acted. At the next Prem meeting there has to be a vote to make sure all clubs pay all staff in full whilst this virus stops them from working.

Lineker trying to defend footballers of those clubs which have furloughed staff.
Embarrassing by him but shamed him into donating 2 months salary to the Red Cross

Pretty sure Lineker said that we should wait to see how PL footballers react to the crisis and decide how or if to help before baying for blood. How has he been shamed into donating money? Is that not something that you should be praising him for if anything? Lineker’s view seems far less embarrassing than yours to me.
Re: Spurs cut non-playing staff wages by 20%
Lineker said they had been thrown under the bus a bit here and we should wait for their response as this has only just happened and there are ongoing talks.
Seemed a pretty fair response to me
