And that, boys and girls, is how you write an article.
I was just looking at the semi-final and final programmes at the weekend.
Superb, rodleydave, and many thanks.

Great article Dave. Thank you. I am a bit younger than you but my late Father in Law regaled me with tales of that season and his trips to Middlesbrough and Wembley, the former in horrendous conditions. And my Mum still has a picture of her and my Dad ice skating on Hollingworth Lake that winter. Tough times. But you tell the young people of today and they just don't believe you! :D

Brilliant read as ever Dave. I can see that you've spent several hours at your desk putting that together, at least it kept you from under the feet of Mrs T. Looking forward already to your next blog.

I just emailed Tony to say I am astonished to see that these were written in 2008. I have a few things in the cupboard. They made me feel quite sad because 12 years on there is no way I could have recalled some of the images that were so strong. Except my mothers cooking.

Thanks Dave, it's been a boost having your articles to add to the history stuff I'm putting on the site to keep it going.

My dad used to tell me about the winter of 46/47 and I have seen some pics, one at Worsthorne in particular that was bad.

You keep surpassing yourself DT. That was an excellent read. Just as an aside, Todmorden must be famous for musicians. I was in a pub there a few years ago and along the wall there was a photo of the mentioned John Helliwell, but also of one of Tod's other famous son's Keith Emerson.

Brilliant! Just before my time but my parents were always talking about that winter...usually every other winter! Wilfred Pickles' programme I remember from the 1950s...Mabel at the table and Harry Hudson(?) at the piano.
These are the sort of memories that need a permanent record...personal accounts of events not official news programmes.
There's some great stuff on this board at the moment...the review of the 1959-60 season, Burnley managers and contributions from people like Rodleydave. It's a great shame more people arn't reading them.
