Clarets duds of the last two decades
As i'm getting bored of all the political bickering,i thought i'd try and get some footy chat going.
The last 20 years has been our most successful period since the halcyon days of the 1960's,but we've had our fair share of failures, this list will send shudders through most clarets,i must be honest a couple of the names i don't even remember, that's how little impression they made in a Burnley shirt.
Cennamo & Sanokho are the pair that I've no memories of during their Turf Moor tenures, but maybe that's for the best, the rest will invoke nightmares for many on this board no doubt.

Is there anyone who shouldn't be on this wall of shame?,and is there any others who you'd have included?.

Vossen looked pretty good to me. 'Personal reasons' should be treated as precisely that and I don't think he should be on the naughty list.

Sanokho my god, I remember him coming on at the Turf, he seriously looked like somebody that had never played. It does make you wonder what they have done in training that has installed any confidence from the manager.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
I think you have to look at the bigger picture with these kinds of things. Not every signing can play, so therefore by definition some have to be seen as bad signings. I'd rather though see a bad signing as someone who had plenty of opportunity and didn't perform and were part of an under-achieving squad. Leon Cort sticks out like a sore thumb there, but many of the others were cheap and/or were with us as we did well. I'd probably lump Gazza in there simply because he was brought in to carry us over the line and we failed. Akibiyi's return signing I think should be on the list as well. Returned for a lot of money and was diabolical for 18 months. His third season with us was fantastic for the club, but he was pretty much peripheral in that.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Ade's goal v Chelsea in the cup was worth his wages regardless of other games.
Its a bit harsh to include him in a dud list
Keith Tracey on the other hand was a standout flop imo

I'd thought of Treacy as well, but he was also part of a promotion winning squad.

I've not been impressed with a certain goalkeeper. No names, no pack drill.

Not seen the link and won’t be doing. The worst of click bait is that organisation.
Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Rouven Hennings must come close to this list. And what about Juke?

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
It has to be Danny Drinkwater at the top of the list for me. I was so looking forward to seeing him come to Burnley to prove a personal point to Chelsea with some MoM displays. Sadly it wasn't to be. Sad for us and him.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Hennings was starting to show a bit of potential before he was sold. He's scored a few goals in the Bundesliga this season as well so there's definitely something there.

CBA opening/adverts, but I'd go in no particular order as some were horrid quality, others horrific waste of cash.
Will try not to repeat the names above.
Remco
Penny
Drinkwater
Sordell
Walters
Legzdins
Nahki
Guerrero
Juke
Hart
Gibson
Reid
A few kids brought with promises, but unfair to list them

Not sure why you loathe the site that much, has some good burnley articles, don't think it quite fits the criteria of click bait..ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 6:27 pmNot seen the link and won’t be doing. The worst of click bait is that organisation.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
I’m damn sure it’s click bait
Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Just links to the article as described for me, no ads etc as I use an ad blocker. My idea of click bait is if you click on something which leads to something other than advertised, or wants money.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Not sure I'd include Gazza either even though he was well past his best and only played a handful of games.
Was still great to see one of the most gifted players of his generation in a Claret shirt and but for a finger tip save by the opposition goalie could have scored the free kick that put us into the play-offs that season.

42 goals in 113 games for club brugge after he left us. That's some strike rate. Pity he didn't sign for cercle.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:04 pmVossen looked pretty good to me. Vydra would have been on most people’s list until about 3 games ago.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
What about Shane Duffy? He like Dane Richards came on as sub and then subbed himself. Are they the only two?
To be fair has done OK since at Blackburn and Brighton

Another vote for Leon Cort from me.
Was shocking. Seem to remember him getting beat for pace all the time and for an experienced player you would think is positional play would be better.

Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
File Treacy in the same bracket as Bikey,Kev Mac & Mears, flattered to deceive, but they all have their footnote in Burnley history with important goals.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:30 pmI'd thought of Treacy as well, but he was also part of a promotion winning squad.
Re: Clarets duds of the last two decades
Dane Richards - is that what he was called ?
He was so out of his depth I could not believe what I was seeing - and neither could SD and subbed him.
I thought we had brought on Arnold from Different Strokes. I think he would have done better - “what you talk about Willis ?”

If you think this list is bad imagine the 80's and 90's that would've been a horror movie, especially the former decade.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 11:09 pmSick of political bickering so let's start a worst Burnley players thread.

Patrick Bamford. Awful and probably expensive.
