Car Tax

Post by Blackrod » Fri Apr 03, 2020 12:15 pm

I’m trying to do mine online via direct debit and it is quoting £20 for the year. Am I missing something ? I can’t ring up DVLA as it’s for essential workers only. Their web chat is down too.

No it’s a big diesel car.

It's based on the car's CO2 emissions. Yours must be in the second lowest band.

I've got a 2 litre diesel car, and that nil road tax. Really surprised me when I bought it.

Mine's a relatively large diesel also, and my tax is only £20

Ok surprising as I was sure I’ve paid more previously but maybe not. Thanks for the replies.

I have a 2017 Mazda 6 with a 2.2d 175bhp engine and I pay £30. If it had been registered after 31st March 2017 it would be £145.

Mine used to be £20. It’s £465 now. Rip off.

If it’s quoting you £20 then surely the best thing to do would be just to pay £20.

I have an adblue diesel. I think road tax is £20. I know that when I bought it they told me that if it had been 2 days newer the tax would have been over £200. It's just had its first MOT, so there must have been some kind of cut -off / re-banding from April 2017.
I pay by DD so it just rolls on, and its less than £2 / month.
Edit: I note now that Sutton Claret also refers to a change on March 31st 2017. My car was registered on March 29th. That's why I had to sort out the MOT last week.

You are sure you are on the DVLA website aren't you. I went to SORN one of ours the other day because of the virus and a message flaqshed up that they wanted £30 to do it -- I'd landed on a spoof site and it was so convincing the alarms bells didn't ring until the last minute!
