Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
You can't live in constant fear, sooner or later life has to return to normal, when that'll be is the $64m question, but in the coming months people will gather together in large numbers if there's major events to attend,i guess the more pertinent question is will there be many events to attend in this calendar year.
Aside from social events,at some point most workers will have to return to the coalface, the economy can't be placed on hiatus for ever, these are the tricky decisions that will confront the government and experts, and they'll have to strike a balance somehow.

Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
Will it be as traumatic as World War 2, when millions of children were sent away from home to live with complete strangers? I know quite a lot of people who licved through that time, and I have never heard of any large scale mental health problems or deep pessimism.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 7:55 pmA lot of young children will grow up being traumatised by these events. Before this they would have been happy-go-lucky while living in what they thought was a safe and certain world. Now that reassurance has gone and it will be lost for a lifetime.
Many will suffer with mental health problems. This is a game changer on so many levels and I'm not even talking about the unfortunate fatalities and the world economy. Even the Arts/film and music will be influenced by the pandemic. Optimism will have been replaced by deep pessimism.
Hope I'm so very wrong.
Ask the over-80's you know. I think you're making a theoretical assumption without placing anything like enough attention to the actual, practical experience of "trauma".

Anybody remember the comedy game on.
Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
The 250,000 was without a lockdown !!!
Thats why the lockdown was introduced,
As regards the 7 month lockdown we are not yet out of lockdown. I will say it again the only exit strategy from lockdown is a vaccine or herd immunity.
A number of elderly and vulnerable will be in self isolation/shielding for a lot longer than 7 months.
Every comment you make shows your lack of understanding of the seriousness of the situation.
You asked me a couple of days ago not to keep referring back to what you had said previously and I have kept to that
Surely that works both ways,

Children already have one foot in a Virtual World. Now during this pandemic I see there are Virtual Toddler Groups. Bonkers. The whole point of toddler groups is so that from a young age children can learn to socialise.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 8:07 pmIt's a massive leap to reach a conclusion from children being safely indoors avoiding dangerous infections & later on in life developing mental health problems, it's more likely young children would be more traumatised with losing grandparents earlier than expected.
You don't need to go back too many years people lived with poverty, filth and disease. And survived.
Many people believe they have already had this virus.myself included. They reckon 1.7 million Brits have already had it but they are still here to tell the tale.
So is this hysteria on a massive scale? Some people stand to lose everything over this, elderly relatives (Flu and Pnemonia has claimed the lives of Elderly people forever this is nothing new), their businesses and their homes. And yes if Mental Health Services were stretched before they sure will be after this.

Good post. Hope this is what happens. Absolutely correct. Movement of people has expedited the spread.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 10:06 pmOne of the changes I’m praying for is less British goods being made in the far East purely on cost. Build British, buy British will be needed to get the country through the economic shitstorm ahead.

Agreed. Given that the UK is now going alone it's timely to restructure the economy with much more focus on manufacturing. We are reknowned for developing technologies let's hope we can exploit them rather than sending overseas I e Dyson, graphene, animation. There are many smaller companies out there developing new technologies - I.e. hydrogen fuel cells - I hope the gov give them support.
The experience has probably turned me xenophobic. I think the rest of the world should unite and boycot trading with China until it rids itself of those barbaric and disgusting wet markets. Those poor animals, primates, reptiles, birds and insects never ever come into close to each other in the natural world so why pen them in small cages, live, and at close proximity to one another. Sure as God made little green apples it's just a matter of time that there is another similar pandemic until such practices are totally eliminated.
Nature is telling us something; man is not invincible, and we need to listen.

Another look has to be given at overseas aid. To be sending money to India when they are looking at nuclear weapons and space exploration is beyond belief. Especially when nothing is being done about their abhorrent caste system.

Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
You too. It's a testing time for all of , some more than others, I've got 3 very close family members who'd be classed as vulnerable/ high risk, so I've an idea of what many are currently going through. I speak to my neighbours who are all ages and they're all finding it tough. My actual neighbours are a young couple whove just celebrated having their first baby, a girl, 3 weeks ago. Under normal circumstances the old dears would be cooing around her, no doubt saying , "let me have a hold" , but with the social distancing rules they cant. James, the dad's mum, is a nurse up at Burnley Gen and she only held her once, very briefly. She comes over and looks through the window. She says it's frustrating as hell cos she cant do all the natural grandma things she'd love to do. She says as long as she's safe and healthy she can wait. Tough and testing times. Anyway, like I say, hope you and yours are all safe and well and when we get out of this hole, there's gonna be one hell of a "social gathering" . Count me in!Healeywoodclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 6:29 amGood to hear from you Ringo. The Lunatics have certainly taken over the Asylum this time! Keep ducking and diving!

Different times now Ringo...with James being the dads mum.. .does that make someone a Burnley fan?RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 10:36 amYou too. Sorry! I worded it badly! James is the proud, but increasingly knackered looking , dad. His mum , the babys grandma is a nurse at the General. Jimmy is very much a claret. Home and away, well, till now! But he's a true claret, like me. 6 fingers and everything!

Yes it must be a strange and difficult time to bring home a new baby when normally everyone wants to share the joy of the parents and coo over the new arrival. Hopefully this will settle down soon and I think we all hope the peak isn't as bad as first predictions. Stay safe.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 10:36 amYou too. I don't think I'll be far out with this year, 6mths according to this reportKateR wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 6:26 pmIt's a lottery when a vaccine is available but for them to scale up to provide to the masses it wont be this year in my opinion. The threat is still there that we will see an upturn in cases in October/November and through winter, I don't think you will have a vaccine ready by then, hence my comment about which future, it's not next month I would think everyone agrees. Therefore I personally am discounting 2020 in terms of recovery but sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
I know for a fact and have said so before, like in a real war many people/groups/countries will be doing there best to find a vaccine, there are some drugs/vaccines already being tested around the world in clinical trials, if they work short cut and game changer but am referring to a new purpose built vaccine. I think they will find this it this year with a bit of luck but might drag on a bit but then takes time, not weeks, for it to be available to the world masses, hence my comment regarding 2021 but sincerely hope I'm wrong.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 12:00 amI don't think I'll be far out with this year, 6mths according to this report

Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
Lots of scientists around the globe are working on this with 1 common goal, there have even discovered recently it's a low shield virus with less obstacles for the immune system to bypass, "hit & run" virus as described.KateR wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 1:19 pmI know for a fact and have said so before, like in a real war many people/groups/countries will be doing there best to find a vaccine, there are some drugs/vaccines already being tested around the world in clinical trials, if they work short cut and game changer but am referring to a new purpose built vaccine. Funding as helped the cause & accelerated the findings so far which is encouraging, we will or should have a vaccine ready this year.
Re: Fear of Social Gatherings - The Future
Jakub,
look in the C-19 positive new thread where I posted last night, we agree regarding all hands to the pumps and have a slightly different opinion, one when it will be ready for the masses, it's irrelevant it will be when it is and at the risk of repeating myself, I hope you're right and I'm wrong, can't come soon enough.
