I'm not sure if it was the same writers on series 3 onwards but 1 and 2 were masterpieces that were brilliantly acted out by the cast. I have them on dvd and the machine upscales them to almost HD quality. Never tire of watching them.
The loss of the character Wayne was a big miss in the bridge and Cuba series. Also the Jimmy Nail character was changed too much.
