ARTICLE: Blackburn 1 Burnley 2 – from Football Cancer Life Death

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Apr 05, 2020 11:22 am

In 2014, Burnley fan Michael Heinicke was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and last year, having recovered, wrote his book Football Cancer Life Death, his diary of his fight against alongside his love of Burnley FC.

He was diagnosed just before we beat Forest 3-1 at home (the match featured on here yesterday) and this is an extract from his book which covers the game two weeks later at Ewood which the club covered yesterday.

Enjoy the read (with a bit of bad language included). There's also a link to purchase the book from Amazon.

Big thanks to Michael & Pitch for allowing me to publish this extract.

Thanks for that, Tony

I was in the same school year with Mick throughout primary and secondary school and we were good pals

Don't see him nearly enough anymore so glad to hear he's doing well

A good lad from a great family

A very entertaining read.

Just one thing though, I don't think the 2000-1 game was a " bubble" match. I was there and I certainly didn't go on an official coach. I also went to the Cup replay a few years later under my own steam.

I don’t know Michael and I don’t know his dad. But he refers to his grandad in the piece and I knew him really well through football and cricket and a nicer man you couldn’t wish to meet.

I've not had time to read it yet, but the first 2 paragraphs made me laugh so looking forward to reading the article with a brew later.

Sorry, you can't get a more passionate BFC fan than me but I find the language used here offensive and unnessary, I'll get my tin hat on.

Would have been a good read were it not spoilt by the bad language.
