Amongst all the carnage about us, the Queen is that constant. Serenity is not the word - Majesty - that's the one.

Thank you your Majesty.

I love our Queen!

My 5 year old hadn’t ever heard her speak before and was sat there, mouth open and amazed that she was listening to the Queen.

Telling that she referred to her wartime experience, and she finished with a Vera Lynn song, naturally We'll Meet Again.

I hope her eldest son gets a flea in his ear when he returns from his Scottish adventure.

It will boost moral hopefully if nothing else,no great surprises, but an uplifting appearance, and a show of stability at an uncertain time.

The speech in full for all those we missed it.

I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time.

A time of disruption in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all.

I want to thank everyone on the NHS frontline, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles, who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all.

I am sure the nation will join me in assuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times.

I also want to thank those of you who are staying at home, thereby helping to protect the vulnerable and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones.

Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.

I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.

And those who come after us will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any.

That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humoured resolve and of fellow-feeling still characterise this country.

The pride in who we are is not a part of our past, it defines our present and our future.

The moments when the United Kingdom has come together to applaud its care and essential workers will be remembered as an expression of our national spirit; and its symbol will be the rainbows drawn by children.

Across the Commonwealth and around the world, we have seen heart-warming stories of people coming together to help others, be it through delivering food parcels and medicines, checking on neighbours, or converting businesses to help the relief effort.

And though self-isolating may at times be hard, many people of all faiths, and of none, are discovering that it presents an opportunity to slow down, pause and reflect, in prayer or meditation.

It reminds me of the very first broadcast I made, in 1940, helped by my sister.

We, as children, spoke from here at Windsor to children who had been evacuated from their homes and sent away for their own safety.

Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know, deep down, that it is the right thing to do.

While we have faced challenges before, this one is different.

This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal.

We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us.

We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.

But for now, I send my thanks and warmest good wishes to you all.

I'll save my respect for the doctors and nurses who are on the front line fighting this disease, rather than a lady who has lived a life of enormous wealth and privilege, purely down to the bloodline she was born into. If that's OK with some of you?

I didn’t bother with it. Not sure it would offer anything other than what we’ve already heard and know. If others get some benefit from it then good for them.

With that privilege comes a great responsibility, a responsibility she dispatched with her usual self effacing manner. Many of those front line staff will be very grateful to her majesty for her support.

I see jrgbfc taking some stick above. He is right though, how can you seriously give footballers stick when this family, part funded by us, has estates, mansions , buildings, land and resource that could all be utilised in some way?

Yes lovely speech, well worded, but imagine the impact on morale if she'd said that one of her estates would become a field hospital or part of Buckingham Palace an observation ward etc.

We are being played. She won't be scrambling for PPE, a ventilator or suitable care.

God save her and all that. But God save Dave 3 doors down at number 44 too.

Well written speech, will cheer up some people who like that kind of thing so all good.

I’m strongly against the idea of a monarchy but always try to reserve my dislike for the system rather than the individuals.

For that reason I’m ok with saying Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg (Windsor) speaks well for a nonagenarian and seems a nice enough old lady. Having said that, so is Edna across the road from me and I afford them both the same respect.

I love the queen and thought it was an excellent address.

Not really sure how you can criticise a 93 year old lady for making a speech in this situation, or the tradition of the monarchy that plays a part in making our country great.

Yep. Agree with that mostly, but you've got to understand that a lot of people won't, and especially if they're the ones that have been struggling to get food, toilet paper, Fairy Liquid etc etc. Any kind words from Liz clearly WON'T help if you've been in that situation!
