He's in a London Hospital they will not name, does anyone know if it's NHS care? I'd be surprised if the PM did not receive private medical treatment.
Combat, he's in St Thomas' just across Westminster Bridge from Westminster. It has been named. Sadik Khan has posted about quality of medical care in St Thomas'.

Not read all the posts, yet. Maybe someone else has also posted this info.

Sends a bad message if he’s taking an ICU bed as a precaution. Can’t help but feel there’s more to it.
I don't think its a precaution. But either way they have repeatedly said that we have more than enough capacity right now.

Hoping he recovers and then takes plenty of time t o FULLY recover.

I’m a long time Burnley fan and been on this forum and Claretsmad for years, even though not as a major poster as such but I will be leaving after this all blows over, I thought as fellow footy fans we had a kindred spirit but I have read such foul, hurtful things on here, those that have written such ignorant, distasteful posts should take a damn good long look at yourselves.
Thankfully others didn’t ignore the vitriol, they reported it and allowed it to be dealt with. Walk away and you let those posters win. They are the ones we want rid of.

I didn’t see that thread until this afternoon and totally agree with you.

He hasn’t been taken to ICU as a precaution.
He was brought into hospital yesterday as a precaution and his situation has unfortunately deteriorated to the extent he now needs to be admitted to ICU.

Conflicting info coming out on whether it is precaution or not but either way it is clearly a very serious situation.

So, Boris Johnson is leading from the sharpest point at the very front. This truly is his Churchill moment.

Praying for you and your medical team.

Let’s hope that everyone is fully supportive of Boris in his personal fight against Covid 19 and that no-one at any time seeks to minimise his condition and turn it into a political football. Good luck Boris and please follow all the medical advice to speed your full recovery. This will be a longer fight than you might realise, hopefully.

Our family lost someone recently in an ICU. I wouldn't wish it on my own worst enemy. Really hope he pulls through and then takes a good long rest before going back into the fray.

Also, we really need to start clamping down on those who think social-distancing is for other people. I hope the seriousness of this sends a message to them.

Unfortunately there are people who don’t and won’t take it seriously. I know it’s no fun. I’m into week four now in isolation. My only ventures out are for a walk but even on the walks I’ve seen people behaving inappropriately.

I’d love to get back to doing normal things, even going to the supermarket.

I know everyone isn’t required to isolate but I just wish everyone would follow the instructions and help fight this horrendous virus.

Based on a sample of (estimated) 32, with 5 respondents claiming to break the rules. Far too small a sample to judge by.

I read through this thread expecting the usual, lowest of the low comments. I was pleased to see something of a unity.

Sadly, this suggests that the usual dick heads are still at it, but it’s swift moderation that’s painted a nicer picture.

Hopefully a few permanent bans might be dished out, if the “ignorant, distasteful posts” are as I imagine them to be.

PM was given oxygen before being taken to intensive care
Boris Johnson was given oxygen before being taken into intensive care on Monday afternoon, the BBC's Chris Mason reports.

Not much has been released as to the prime minister's condition, but Number 10's statement earlier said he had "worsened" after suffering persistent symptoms of the coronavirus.

I'm no expert but is this normal?maybe with this virus it is,hence the requirement for oxygen.

His admission as a precaution yesterday was a smoke screen. His number two hasn't spoken to him since Saturday. Boris was admitted because he was getting worse as some do around day 7. Someone has posted the experience of a young man in his 20's. Now that Boris is on ICU means that he remains on a downhill course and whether he comes out of it only time will tell but the stats as posted above are at best 50/50 at his age. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

It is really, after the typical fever & cough the respiratory difficulties seem to be in that order usually, not sure on the odds past that I guess everybody’s different, either way he’s in the final symptom stage where it’s crucial if he responds & gets through it.

52% of men in his age band who go into ICU with Covid, don’t come out. 48% do.

Source: https://www.icnarc.org/DataServices/Att ... 505601089b

When people say Boris’s life is being ruled by those percentages, its meant to be darn hyperbole.

Come on Boris
Should be careful with those stats:
"Owing to the emerging nature of the epidemic, the sample of patients with COVID-19 represented in this
table is biased towards patients with shorter durations of critical care (i.e. those who died or recovered quickly)."

He's also towards the lower age range of his group and the detail of co-morbidities by age isn't given so we don't know. i'm not saying it's not serious - it clearly is but "50/50" isn't really backed up by those stats.

At least the PM'S fiancee is on the mend.

While Boris Johnson has been unwell with coronavirus, so has his fiancée, Carrie Symmonds.

She confirmed via Twitter over the weekend that she had spent a week in bed with the main symptoms, isolating away from the PM, but said she felt "stronger" and was "on the mend".

However, she also had the extra concern of being pregnant.

The couple announced in February they were expecting their first child together in the early summer, and were engaged.

She said having coronavirus while being pregnant was "obviously worrying", but advised other expectant mothers to follow the "reassuring guidance" from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

This must be an incredibly distressing time for her,as well as being pregnant, she's got the additional worry of her partner being in intensive care.

Hopefully she continues her recovery, along with the PM.

It is not necessary to afford Boris Johnson any more sympathy than he has afforded millions of sick and disabled people and their families. But it is vile to actively wish him, or anybody else, dangerous illness or death.

I dislike Tories because I am compassionate, humane, socially aware and care for others who have been let down and discarded politically. It has nothing to do with hatred.

I wish Boris a speedy recovery as a fellow human being.

I hope Boris pulls through. When the Government next give Nurses a pay rise, the tireless work and risk to their lives is reflected in the pay rise.

He is not the first political leader to have been in ICU, with a virus.
I have just been looking at my football scrap books and found the front page headlines of the Daily Express from Jan 17 1963, which read, IT’S VERY GRAVE, referring to the then Labour leader Hugh Gaitskell, who was in a London intensive care unit. 6 leading doctors were racing time to find a cure for an unidentifiable virus.
The front page also headlines THE SHAME OF SPURS, which shows photos and a match report of Burnley beating Spurs 3-0 in the cup at White Hart Lane. 5 times the game blew up into wild pushing, punching brawls, with Burnley players urging the Ref to send off Spurs players. The crowd pelted Blacklaw with snowballs after a clash with Dyson (some clash). But the kicking, punching and butting went on. Referee Langdale spoke to Smith, McKay, Norman and Dyson of Spurs. Blacklaw, Lochead of Burnley. Surprisingly not one player was booked.

He has the weight of millions on his shoulders, he is making decisions to save as many as he can, as well as planning to get the country up off its knees at the other side.
We are humans first and foremost, which is why all the other stuff like what colour he wears should pale into insignificance when a humans life is at risk.

He's been doing his best and fighting for us all, now its time for him to fight for himself, everyone to a man should be right behind him at this time regardless of personal opinion.

You can beat this Boris, your nation is behind you!

And, item on R4 Today mentioned a couple of other PMs were in serious medical conditions in wartime: Lloyd George in summer of 1918 with Spanish flu - while he was speaking at Manchester Town hall - and Winston Churchill with minor heart attack in Dec 1941 - while he was in Washington DC meeting US President to persuade US to defeat Hitler first, while containing Japan. His doctor Moran, as he wrote in his biography of Churchill, was fearful that the minor heart attack could lead to a more serious one if Churchill didn't rest. But, he didn't rest because the situation didn't allow.

Watching sky news last night, a senior doctor, working in ICU, said that people suffering from this evil virus need rest. She said just as an onlooker, it maybe that his dogged determination to carry on doing , what must be one of the most pressured job in the land hasn't helped his condition.

Boris Johnson has been a fighter throughout his political life. Now he has the biggest fight of his life.

I hope and pray it's one he wins.

Hope he pulls through.

With exactly the same amount of concern I have for every single person sharing his predicament.

No more, no less.
You couldn’t sound more insincere if you tried.

Not the thread for bickering. Please refrain and let people share their own opinions

I just don’t understand why it’s relevant to mention politics and their dislike for his party and work, when discussing someone’s life, it’s irrelevant.
Absolutely spot on. That's how the thread on the previous evening was ruined and why political debate is going to be stopped on this board. We are in a crisis currently and a lot of people are seriously worried about it. It has nothing to do with party politics at all and I am astonished at some of the comments I've seen. I'm absolutely sick to the back teeth at some of the stuff that goes on this message board at times.

A man is in hospital with severe problems brought about by the virus and he's a man who is currently leading us through the current situation yet we still get the points scorers.

The last thing the country needs is a power struggle for leadership of the ruling party, for that reason alone even the most partisan should be wishing him a speedy recovery.

Well said and sadly probably the only solution.

Hopefully the Covid-19 thread won't be stopped, over 120 pages, whether you agree or not with what people say, an awful lot of work has gone into some posts, and in the main is self policing.
Agree 100% with rest of your points.
