Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
I know its hard when he's the prime minister but he should have clearly been forced to take a step back sooner, and concentrate on his recovery. Hope he pulls through.

ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:44 amAbsolutely spot on. That's how the thread on the previous evening was ruined and why political debate is going to be stopped on this board. We are in a crisis currently and a lot of people are seriously worried about it. It has nothing to do with party politics at all and I am astonished at some of the comments I've seen. I'm absolutely sick to the back teeth at some of the stuff that goes on this message board at times.
A man is in hospital with severe problems brought about by the virus and he's a man who is currently leading us through the current situation yet we still get the points scorers.
I haven't used this board since September (I just logged in today to do the Xpert11 thread), and it was the poisonous far-right political stuff, then abusive replies back and forth from all sides that followed that made me realise I didn't enjoy using it any more.
Sorry to derail this thread somewhat. I sincerely hope Johnson makes a full recovery. I'm no fan of his but nobody deserves to die of this awful disease for their political views. At times like this we need unity and people and politicians of all stripes need to all pull together to get the country through this.

Very well put. Your first two paragraphs mirror my sentiments exactly. In addition I would add that I think that Boris is probably one of the best men in the current cabinet to be in charge .....I worry that Dominic Raab is too dogmatic.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 11:46 amSteady on, saying whilst I may not like someone but I wish him well and hope he is ok is nothing like the point scoring and bickering that went on the other night.
I think in a way mentioning your dislike for someones politics whilst stating in spite of that you wish him nothing but good will is a way of saying lets leave the politics to one side.
Maybe people shouldn't jump on little things that aren't there as that creates the bickering and crap on threads like this as much as anything else
Anyway lets hope Johnson fully recovers and lets hope as many of the other people in hospital with the virus also recover. As i said earlier just let people express their opinions in the way they wish to and as long as they are not being provocative or disrespectful then please respect their view as much as anyone elses even if you dont fully agree with their sentiment

I wish Johnson and any of the other thousands suffering from this illness a speedy recovery.
I welcome this new spirit of having a board free of political comment/discussion/point-scoring/bickering and hope it extends right across the political divide. Anything else would be hypocrisy.
Some interesting converts to this crusade in the last 24 hours which is brilliant.
Onwards and upwards.

Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
Get well soon Boris.
I have to agree that at times posters have overstepped the mark on some threads. The General Election thread demonstrated that political threads can be courteous on here. There was a wide range of view points which were passionately argued for from both the right and left which never reduced to name calling. Can we keep future threads as civil.
Thankfully this forum is not the poison that is Twitter and I would hate it to turn like that.

Boris Johnson stable and 'in good spirits' and in hospital
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is "in good spirits" after spending the night in intensive care being treated for coronavirus, No 10 has said.
A spokesman said Mr Johnson, 55, was stable overnight, is being given oxygen and is not on a ventilator.
So far, so good.

It's definitely a good sign he's not on a ventilator, and he's receiving oxygen in the conventional manner.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 2:44 pmBoris Johnson stable and 'in good spirits' and in hospital

I suspect like many others he's not taken the required rest needed for his body to fully recover,a few days relaxing should allow his system to heal itself naturally.
And then he'll have to have some time to properly recuperate, before returning to the fold.

I imagine the amount of fraud going on,on just giving pages and various charidee type set ups must be staggering . What do they expect to do when they raise a few k or a few 100k? Buy some ( now not required ppe kit) a few cups of coffee for a giant hospital ? While it’s a very worthy ideal it’s mainly virtue signalling with a political message

Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
Its a long road back and Johnson needs to be careful around his workload and stress levels. ICU patients can often seemingly make a quick recovery but 6-12 months down the line suffer a serious dip.
Coming back to lead a country through a crisis of this magnitude could really lead to something even more serious in the near future. People around him really need to look out for him and look past the initial recovery phase to protect his future

To be fair to you thatdberight , the general point you were making wasn't wrong. As Devils Advocate puts it "the extreme fruit loops on social media" have indeed wished ill and indeed death upon our PM. But they are there and sadly this minority is a tiny disproportionately noisy cult.
To be wishing ill or death upon anybody not only, thankfully, a tiny minority view, but suggests somebody is not of sound mind. Particularly when this position is simply down to politics
Basic humanity from one person to another, should never be allowed to be trumped by political differences.

There's fruit loops on all sides expressing all sorts of disgraceful views. What we shouldn't do is use the fruit loops to to make out a majority normal group thinks and acts the way of the extremes
I could link you a Twitter thread with right wing bigots posting fake pics about Muslims and coming out with some vile racist remarks. Would that make it ok for me to suggest all right wing people are racists and using Covid-19 as an excuse to attack Muslims?

The overwhelming majority of people have wished the PM good health and a swift recovery. That includes every post I've read on this board on the matter. I can't remember seeing anyone wishing him death or suffering. So I'm not sure why you're giving these people so much air time. I think this board has been very respectful.
Unless of course you're using it as a political point to 'prove' that people on the left of politics are the bad guys?

They were all basically the same message with poor spelling and grammar (purporting to come from a working class person), and we know a lot bots worked overtime for the Tories during the election, so probably true. It’s just people using Johnson’s illness to score political points. Across a lot of very different sites the same message came up to counter the deluge of “I hope he gets better, and then resigns” posts of “if you can’t post anything positive, don’t post at all” Standard right wing suppression of free speech.HieronymousBoschHobs wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 3:53 pmI read (and this could be total ********) that some of the twitter accounts which first put the idea out were highly dodgy and possibly Russian bots.

Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
As I said at the outset , I had 3 very close family members that are in the "at risk"/vulnerable group. And since then my daughter who has an office based job was told her workload would be temporarily suspended and she'd to going on the ward , just as a pair of extra hands, nothing medical of course, to help with the expected number of cases. So I can say, hand on heart , that for various different reasons, I can emphasise with others at this unprecedented crisis that's testing us all. I can assure you, it is not disingenuous.
As for going out of my way. The example of the mayor who said that "Boris Johnson completely deserves this and he is one of the worst PMs we’ve ever had.” is in all the papers. And is an example of people allowing their political differences trump what should be basic humanity to another human.

I don’t think your empathy towards Johnson or others is disingenuous, I’m saying it is coming across this way because you seem more concerned in trying to score points against ‘the left’. Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
One idiot makes a stupid remark and loses her post. Fair enough.
She should have put her argument forward in the same manner as the "nurse" or nurse above. The points made by her/him are all the uncomfortable truth.
He/she is arguing, not point-scoring but pointing out facts. As I say, very uncomfortable for some.
Johnson will be out soon, things will get back to normal eventually and the fashion of giving a damn about the NHS will sadly fade.

She's well known for her left-wing views. If you were looking for random rich folk to have a go at, it's a pretty odd choice, no ?
I'd disagree with your "clearly", old chum - why would rich folk be up against a wall turning their pockets out ? That's pathetic even by your standards. You've been caught being a hypocrite yet again so you lie - yet again.
But aye, you crack on.

Nothing was meant by it,maybe I worded it badly perhaps.I like Boris and think he's doing the best he can in very difficult times ,but a few posters chose to pillory me as though I had wished him I'll,that's their prerogative, but that couldn't be further from the truth..
I believe that is what you meant to say and like you say it was probably not worded the best.
Irrespective it is nothing like the extreme views we have heard from the mayor etc and nobody on here has said anything remotely like that so not really sure why it’s been mentioned on here. Let’s not pretend that whoever was PM or who ever got ill on either party there would not be some fruit loop somewhere on social media putting on a stupid comment or saying they were pleased or deserved it. Giving these idiots more “airtime” on here serves no purpose.

Re: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care
I struggle to get the obsession by some with Johnson receiving the same care as everyone else.
Tens of millions of lives, careers, depend on him. He runs a fairly inexperienced Cabinet as the world enters a crisis stage. He should receive the best treatment possible, whatever the cost (it will still be way less than is spent on almost every other major leader in a similar scenario, Trump’s numbers would be mind boggling).
Like it or not the NHS engages in rationing every day by necessity (e.g. cancer drug “x” deemed unavailable, not because it doesn’t work but because NICE say the lives saved aren’t worth the economic cost). Some of the conversations going on in hospital boardrooms, even in normal times, are grim (I have experienced many).
All lives are precious, and we must do all we can for them, but our PM, whoever it is, is vital. Absolutely vital.

Okey dokey. I'll give it a rest.
But , to both yourself, Eddie, Andrew JB, ksr claret and anyone else who believes their hasn't been spiteful , vindictive and quite repulsive comments based on certain individuals inability to separate their hatred of Boris Johnson the politician , and Boris Johnson the human. I'll leave you with this -

Like I care about Brexit.
Simple fact is the bloke that is supposed to protect us from all this has caught it himself because he didn't act fast enough.
Joke prime minister, if he gets it worse the NHS should refuse to treat him.

I don't think anybody would argue with that, Crosspool, even those NHS workers feeling cheated seem to wish him well. They might resent what his party have done to them - and their miraculous epiphany - but they'll welcome his recovery.
