Listen out for an announcement later today saying Monday 11 May will be the day we return to work. A few people didn't believe me last time I stated this.

Shall we look at it logically? We will all be subject to some degree of ‘lockdown’ until there is a globally available vaccine.

And if that doesn't happen? Perhaps we just have to get on with it.jackmiggins wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:05 pmShall we look at it logically? We will all be subject to some degree of ‘lockdown’ until there is a globally available vaccine.

Re: UK media & Lockdown
Surprise nobody believed LoveCurryPies, returning to normal on 11 May, to me that still seems optimistic.
Any lifting of restrictions will be very partial and gradual, and people aged over 70 years will probably find themselves asked to stay "isolated" until a vaccine is available. There will be no general return to work and those who have been working from home will be asked to carry on doing so. Crowded public transport is a scenario they don't want to see.
"Returning to normal" won't happen for at least 18 months.
I am pretty confident that once face masks are more readily available an announcement will follow that wearing one is probably a sensible idea.

Normal by 11 May? I can't see it at all. But they can't keep giving away the future and at some stage this will simply become about ensuring the procession of deaths is not made any worse by lack of facilities.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:45 pmSurprise nobody believed LoveCurryPies, returning to normal on 11 May, to me that still seems optimistic.

Re: UK media & Lockdown
There'll be no announcement in the way you've put it. They probably will announce the lockdown is in place for another 3 weeks, and if they do the earliest any of it could technically be lifted is 11th May which fits with your date. However, not sure what you mean by return to work as in theory everyone is currently allowed to work. They only request that people work from home where possible and that many public facing shops/businesses can't open. Other countries are the guides for what will happen, and I think the first relaxation of our lockdown will be schools to re-open and some, but not all, public facing businesses will be allowed to re-open. Worth noting that Germany have already said that all sports events and bars, cafes, restaurants cannot open to the public until at least 31st August.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 11:53 amListen out for an announcement later today saying Monday 11 May will be the day we return to work. I suppose it depends on what you class as ‘out of lockdown’. I don’t think our kids are going back to school any time soon, most workplaces will still be closed esp offices, nor will we be going to a pub or restaurant before the clocks go back.

Re: UK media & Lockdown
"Planned date for coming out of lockdown is mid-May"
2021?
With over 6000 new cases reported today there is not the slightest chance of people returning to work in any significant numbers by mid-May 2020.
Track and Trace Apps may well operate fine on the Isle Of Wight with just a handful of new cases reported each day, but you would need an army of people on the ground with the figure of new cases being that high. The figure needs to be in the low hundreds for Track and Trace to work effectively. The peak of daily infections in South Korea was just 909 recorded on 29 February 2020, far easier to test, track and trace when numbers are that low.

We were criticised for not following other countries at the start of the outbreak, will we follow them out of lockdown?
All the things you have mentioned, Spain will be opening them, and more, within a month.
Hairdressers and barbers are already open there
Beaches are soon to open
Italy and France are planning similar
Germany starting football
I think we will still have a few light nights left when you can sit and have a drink, certainly in a beer garden.

Re: UK media & Lockdown
Germany exiting lockdown with just 1200 new cases is a far cry from the UK exiting lockdown with over 6000.
It will be a few more weeks of lockdown yet before people return to work in significant numbers.

Re: UK media & Lockdown
Our lockdown has been nowhere near as strict as the ones imposed in Italy and Spain.Grumps wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 4:29 pmIt depends whether we follow the rest of europe

Re: UK media & Lockdown
it will be a slow reopening, gathering will be very limited to small numbers May/June, no bars/clubs to open until July - Sept timeframe.
Businesses will open for some in May but limited and not all. I see some restaurants being open but for limited numbers and social distancing to apply so maybe you'll get in a restaurant beer garden during summer.
Am basing the above on what I am seeing and hearing in many locations, UK Gov. will definitely want to open ASAP but will be limited stages and each will be measured against new cases and may well result in going back to square one but hopefully not.
