Re: John Prine
Yes, RIP John Prine.
I saw he was hospitalised with the dreaded virus a few days ago. Knowing his age and previous bouts of serious health issues, I did fear for him.
He wrote some terrific songs over a long period of time and was a very assured performer.
I was first introduced to his work mid 70s via Joan Baez cover of "Hello in there"; then through his own output & the many covers of "Speed of the sound of Loneliness".
More recently I loved his album of M/F duets (In Spite of Ourselves) utilising singing talents of some really good female vocalists. Pretty non-romantic but honest look at relationships.
Not appropriate advice at the mo but very perceptive song when he was a very young man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfwGkplB_sY
Duet with fab Irish singer Dolores Keane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t3K4MVuWAI

Re: John Prine
RIP John.
Back in the early 70s I worked with a guy who was a fanatic for him. I never got him then but will re-visit his works later.

Re: John Prine
Prune was part of a soundtrack to the summer of ‘93 for me. Great lyricist (though as with many folk artists I’m not always sure whether he wrote it or it’s a cover).

This is an anthem for all men who have found a place in their head to go to when the wife gets a bit tetchy

The Guardian now has 2 pieces on JP; an official Obit + a nice piece by their head music critic (Alexis Petridis). They overlap a bit but both well written/informed I believe.

My personal favourite of his, 'Your Flag Decal Won't Get You In To Heaven Any More': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRCLHBhZPQ4
No doubt being an awesome singer-songwriter and, by all accounts, a stand up bloke will get him through the pearly gates.
