Chris Wood - Offside
I see our No. 9 has been penalised the most in the Prem for offsides.

Looking further down the stats, he's a bit behind Timo Werner who is allegedly a target for Liverpool and MUFC. Need to step it up a bit Chris.

Got to play right on the edge, that's how you get to be top scorer.

Re: Chris Wood - Offside
The best players play right on the shoulder, no complaints at all from me. We seem a bit obsessed with it at Burnley, Gray was top scorer and still got moans and groans.
Re: Chris Wood - Offside
Not nearly a frustrating as Andre Gray was for us.
Re: Chris Wood - Offside
Mr. C. Ronaldo is top of the Italian league for offsides. I wonder if his fans tend to have a go at him as well, or if they accept it as part of his game?

Re: Chris Wood - Offside
As others have alluded to, Wood plays just off the t-shirt line of the last man so it’s totally understandable.

Also scored as many goals as Harry Kane, Anthony martial and Raheem sterling, while scoring more than son, alli, Jesus to name a few. 1 goal every 188 minutes is exceptional in the premier league.

I thought with no football there might be a possibility that we wouldn’t have to endure another of these threads.
I’d much rather see a thread entitled: Chris Wood - 31 Premier League goals for Burnley

Re: Chris Wood - Offside
I know it might be difficult to remember as it seems like years ago we last played, but hadn’t that part of his game improved in the last 10 games or so?
He didn’t seem to be offside nearly as much.

To be fair Tony, there’s only one person on this thread who has stated that CW needs to up his game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:46 pmI thought with no football there might be a possibility that we wouldn’t have to endure another of these threads.

True what you say, but that’s just one person’s opinion. However most of us are wise enough to see that CW is a great asset to our club. There’s going to be divergent opinions of course, and sometimes one seemingly irrational voice ca drown out the majority. Have a great day, Tony.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:51 amJust look at the thread title and the OP - all about him being offside, all about him having to step up his game. No mention of his goals.

Point I'm making is that this thread was started to refer to him being offside and needing to step up - nothing to do with his goalscoring.chekhov wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:01 amTrue what you say, but that’s just one person’s opinion. Re: Chris Wood - Offside
There was a really good article in The Athletic regarding Wood just a few days ago. It highlights what a very good player he is which, to be fair, most of us know! If you don't value CW I suggest you give it a read. One great measurement is how much Dyche and the rest of the team value him.

CT, quite clearly the OP is tongue in cheek with the step it up comment. They're referring to him being offside less than a guy who's a target for Liverpool.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:24 amPoint I'm making is that this thread was started to refer to him being offside and needing to step up - nothing to do with his goalscoring.

My thoughts exactly. It was a bit of a jokey post but people get so touchy and read into stuff that isn't thereChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:31 amCT, quite clearly the OP is tongue in cheek with the step it up comment. Re: Chris Wood - Offside
Respect your view ESE, however where I was coming from was the criticism I have seen on the board earlier about the number of times Chris Wood was offside.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 7:07 pmTo be fair, the "irony" was well disguised.............
Having seen the article I glanced down to see Timo Werner was the player most offside player in Europe. The same Timo Werner who is apparently attracting attention from some of the Prem's so called elite. To my mind the stat most offsides, if not quite ridiculous, is not the most relevant relating to a striker. Far more important, as Claret Tony states, are goals scored, but I'd also regard conversion rate, assists and minutes on the pitch to name but a few, as more important; yet these don't get a mention. It's crackers.
I thought there were a couple of other clues in the post, suggesting irony, where I'd referred to Burnley's No 9 as having the most offsides in the Prem, i.e. not naming him, yet when I referred to him as needing to step it up, and what I regarded as a leg pull, I used his Christian name - i.e. more personal.
Guess I should have used emojis.

Re: Chris Wood - Offside
I watched an interesting video on YouTube the other day about the most misleading stats in modern football, and why they are essentially useless for proper analysis. The one on possession was spot on but there was another about how often a player fails.
To put that into context for Wood, he's got to attempt as many runs off the shoulder of the last defender as he can. Now, not every run will be a success, he's not perfect, it's a 50/50 success rate (in theory) so the more attempts be makes he will be caught offside a lot because he's doing his job properly.
