Well done but as employees it was totally out of order for Hancock to call them out.
This is a governmental problem. Raise the tax rates and then all the wealthy would get caught.

Re: Players Together
Not so. They’ve been working on this for a while. You can’t just launch it in a day or two.

Re: Players Together
an excellent response from the players and very happy to hear it, with zero complaints from me in this regard.
Re: Players Together
One of our players promoting it which I'd very nice to see, and more positive news for our club.

Led by Jordan Henderson with the other 19 captains.

Have they been edited, as I'm sure it said I'm led to believe our player are.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 9:57 pmOur players are on board if you read the first two posts on the thread.
So was just showing/confirming some definitely are as Tarky is promoting it.
I'll edit accordingly

Not that we need it, but more positive news regards our club and players doing what they can to help in this crisis.

Re: Players Together
I think it’s fantastic. I know they are all wealthy beyond our comprehension but to support NHS charities in this way, players from all twenty clubs, is outstanding.

Like many other people who use "companies" and/or other schemes to hide their income, if they just paid their 45% like the rest of us, maybe the NHS wouldn't need extra funding?

The more I read about Jordan Henderson the more I find myself liking the guy. He seems to be a captain both on and off the pitch and has the respect of players at all clubs.

Re: Players Together
Apart from the fact that he has probably been the most important player on the pitch for Liverpool this season, he comes across really well now with off field matters. Clearly a leader.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:09 pmThe more I read about Jordan Henderson the more I find myself liking the guy. Re: Players Together
Yes, fair play to Jordan Henderson.
Re: Players Together
Sorry, I don't know how to display tweets but Nick, not surprisingly, has followed Tarky's lead. I'm sure all the other lads who "do" twitter will be doing likewise.

Re: Players Together
I may be wrong ( I'm not an accountant ) but as I understand it, if the players donate money, which will presumably be gift aided, that will be much better for the NHS than a pay cut. I read somewhere that a pay cut could cost the treasury up to£200 million in lost tax.
What the players have agreed to do is excellent news and I agree about Jordan Henderson. As CT said, he's certainly a leader.

Aren't charity donations taken before tax as well ?

Re: Players Together
Yes they are but if they made the donation direct from the wage, then they would pay less tax into the government pot.
I’ve read it that they still get paid as normal, so still pay the tax, then make their own contributions to the charity
I could be wrong though

Without wanting to sound ignorant, what's he done, I've not yet heard or seen?Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:09 pmThe more I read about Jordan Henderson the more I find myself liking the guy. He does seem to be great off the field with the previous things I've read about him.

Re: Players Together
I'm guessing the pay cut idea of 10/20% was to be used for club costs including paying non playing staff and other stuff related to the club.Suratclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 3:24 amI may be wrong ( I'm not an accountant ) but as I understand it, if the players donate money, which will presumably be gift aided, that will be much better for the NHS than a pay cut. Couldn't agree more. A genuine northern boy who is a leader both on and off the pitch...cheeky bid in a year or two? Would fit perfectly into our clubClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:38 pmApart from the fact that he has probably been the most important player on the pitch for Liverpool this season, he comes across really well now with off field matters. Re: Players Together
I look forward to the tabloid headlines...”less than 2% donated so far” “Sterling only committed x amount”
How dare people spend other people’s money? How dare the government stick their noses in? They should use tax policy if they think people should pay more.
Unfortunately this won’t be the end of it. Unless I’m missing something?

I know it’s one big anonymous pot. I don’t share your confidence that the press won’t make it their mission to at least try and find out how much individuals have contributed. Hope I’m wrong.

Re: Players Together
Well done Ben et al.
Ben's statement highlights how few players in the prem are from the UK. The rest will want to help their own country.

Very good article by our captain in today’s Guardian. Perhaps someone could provide a link. I can’t get onto the computer at the moment and it’s difficult to do so from the phone.
