Souvenirs from your first match
Souvenirs from your first match
Please post an image or two of souvenirs from your first ever match, or a few details of what you remember buying if you have no photos, thanks.
Photo 1. The programme from my first ever match, a birthday present to a match in London. Jimmy Greaves (number 8 as usual) has been in the news this week for all the wrong reasons, but in December 1964 he was always in the news for all the right ones - as CT said recently he was just the greatest goalscorer. As a little lad it was a huge thrill to see him play. Ron Springett, Wednesday's keeper, was an England reserve keeper. The only name I don't recall at all from the Spurs line-up is Marchi (6).

Photo 2: This aeriel view of WHL shows a box built into the roof of the East Stand. Later that season I saw Burnley play for the first time. My dad, grandad and I were sat in that very box! It's the only time I've ever watched a match behind glass - the view of the pitch was fantastic. Andy L scored our winner.

Re: Souvenirs from your first match
March ‘62. Beat WHU 6-0. Scarf and rattle from Cockers, rosette outside the ground.
Tony Marchi was a solid LH for Spurs, sadly for him they had Dave Mackay to play there.
Didn’t realise he’d had 2 spells with Spurs split by a couple of Italian sides.

I've got the programme and a signed team sheet from my first Bury game, played 31 years to the day before the club was expelled from the EFL. Spot the future Clarets on the cover:

I’ve no idea mate. But I definitely know someone else went on to play for Burnley.
Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Is that Ronny Jepson bottom right? Stan brought a few ex Shakers to Burnley. Peter Swan, Gordon Armstrong.

Wolves had just come up from the Fourth where they'd caused murder on the first day of 87/88 at Scarbrough. GMP were taking no chances.

Spencer Liam Robinson, one of my first favourites. I was still like a gibbering schoolboy when I met him ten years ago.

Definitely has that Glenn Hoddle look about him. Shame he couldn’t play like Glenn but if he could he wouldn’t have been with us.cricketfield73 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:12 pmBit of a wild guess, is that Paul Comstive playing for Wrexham?

Commy's only problem was being as slow as a cart horse - but he had some real quality about him and should have been playing a lot higher.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:49 pmDefinitely has that Glenn Hoddle look about him. Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Such a sweet left foot, with which he scored lots of really important goals for us. I always thought he played like Glenn Hoddle, unless my claret-tinted view was slightly biased, of course!
Re: Souvenirs from your first match
First match was a night match at Elm Park, Reading. Sisters boyfriend took me. I was 9 or 10. No souvenirs.
1965 Reading v Burnley FA Cup. I wore the claret and blue scarf my mum bought me. That I have in my scarf collection. I probably have the match prog, somewhere in the loft, although I used to let folk borrow my prog collection, so they all may still be 'borrowed '.

14th September 1985. I was four.
Hereford 2-2 Burnley
My Dad will have one of the programmes somewhere but I only have a vague memory of the day.

Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Not got the programme from my first ever 1st team match, which was in 68,beat Soton 2-0,but I have loads of match programmes from the 1970's and my prized possession amongst them is the Preston away programme when we drew 1-1 and sealed the 2nd div title.

Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Staying in the football league was a good enough souvenir for me.
Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Dazzler, try this:
Sign in, go to the thread you want to post a reply to. In someone's post open a "reply"; in the reply dialogue box select the "preview" tab. You'll then see a couple of new tabs: select "attachments". You'll then see a couple of instructions on how to insert your photo.
Good luck

My printer/ photocopier is knackered but I have a couple of pics of the programme on my phone.Sarum wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:21 pmDazzler, try this:

I've been trying to work out how to insert them on here for the last 15 mins
Re: Souvenirs from your first match
Dazzler, I haven't uploaded photos from my phone so can't help you there, sorry. Maybe someone else has and could help you further?
I took the photos of the programme on my phone, saved to my Google photos account, then downloaded them into my computer/windows, dragged the file from there into the UTC dialogue box.

Just checked to see if I had a spare for you. Sadly only the one and it’s been defaced. My Da kept scrapbooks and cut the cover photo off if he could use it. 2Mb using the attachments feature. You can resize using one of the many photo apps.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 4:41 pmIs there a maximum file size you can attach?

When you highlight your desired photo it may give you it's size. Select it anyway as I’ve had photos of 2.5Mb and when selected have come in as 1.5Mb and have uploaded.
This is where you need to be under 2Mb.

You on about the Southampton programme? I'm waiting on that chap at Skipton town hall market to get back to me regarding that programme.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 4:40 pmJust checked to see if I had a spare for you. I have also asked him if he can get his hands on the 1970 boxing day programme away to Blackpool...my first away game.
If I don't get any luck from him I might just get back to you.
Thanks for that bud.

The first time I watched Burnley "in the flesh"! October 1972 - I was the Club's guest at Craven Cottage. An unforgettable experience - and meeting Bob Lord as a bonus
