No but as a tradition we will eat fish and as the wife has cooked nice and healthy all week I fancy getting a chippy. Sorry if that has offended you.

Any recommendation for an English fish and chip shop that is open in the Burnley area today?

It hasn't offended me. It's just that if fish and chips was the important thing, you could have headed it "Fish and Chip shops" or something like that. Good Friday means a lot more than that.

Good Friday was in the 70's Mallory Park and The Transatlantic Trophy 500cc Races between Us and the USA .... Barry Sheene and co vs the Yanks....

In 77 we did Mallory Park on Good Friday and Oulton Park on Easter Monday (missed out Brands Hatch on the Sunday)

There's some bloke in sandals who looks like a bit of a tramp handing out fish down Burnley market. Be prepared to queue though Boyo cos there looks to be about around 5k people down there

Although we are not catholic, my mum always used to insist on fish on Good Friday. It was usually fish and chips (home made) at dinner time and then a salmon salad at tea time. I've kept up the family tradition since my mum passed away but I've not been able to get out to buy any fresh fish so it is going to have to be a tin of tuna tonight with some pasta & sauce.

as long as there's a chippy on Lyndhurst road, the world still seems normal. it must have been there for about 600 years at least.

My mum used to also insist on fish and chips on Good Friday. I used to enjoy a battered sausage and chips with a spam fritter on the side.

Is it an English chippy or the Chinese. I cannot eat fish and chips made by Chinese or any other nationality. It's just never been as good.

I love proper traditions and the happy memories they invoke.
Regardless of your religious views days such as Good Friday do bring back memories we were brought up Catholics and as a family we still maintain the tradition and respect for faith.

A trip to the chippy is definitely an essential journey. I’m amazed we haven’t cracked this virus yet, I think it as the only journey the Chinese were allowed to make during their lockdown too.....

I got a message from a mate of mine that the chippy on Briercliffe Road (Towneley Street) is open
for business today. They have all the precautionary measures in place too.

Go fill your boots boys and girls.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

No, just surprised that you (being a fairly traditionalist woman) would tell it from the point of view of a husband.

Also Donnington Transatlantic Trophy. I saw Sheene v. Roberts do that in the late 70s.

No showroom bikes in the paddock, they looked tatty and stuck together with tape etc.

Yeah... Not at all what you would expect. Sheene's bike was scruffy and messy. I went to the London Bike Show last year and they had his Suzuki, all polished up etc. I thought that's not how it was. The equivalent is looking inside a rally car, they just look half-built.

Anyway, a hill outside the walled city of the centre of the Christian church in England and this (notice Canterbury Cathedral in the background):
