Do cup winners also become null and void if a season is cancelled?
Do cup winners also become null and void if a season is cancelled?
If any season is cancelled what happens if either the league cup or the FA Cup has been completed?
Would those results still stand, and if not, how would they un-engrave the names of the winners on the trophy?
In addition, do bookings and red cards still get carried forward to a new season?

Why would anything completed, get abandoned?

The problem arises with European places.
If they scrap the league then European places going forward would surely be based on last year. However, if you then get different teams entering the Europa league due to winning the league and FA Cup that will complicate things.

Can’t help feeling it would be better to cancel all of next seasons cup completions, domestic and European. It would take some of the time pressure off a late starting season.

I can't see there being any football until there's a vaccine. Football is impossible to implement social distancing from the players to fans to the day to day running of clubs and matchdays.

That's an option certainly, the big boys won't be happy, but it's probably the easiest way to negate any fixture congestion.CrispyClaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:20 pmCan’t help feeling it would be better to cancel all of next seasons cup completions, domestic and European. Regarding the op's i don't see why Man City should be stripped of the Carabao Cup,they won it fair and square, and if their European ban is upheld,or if European comps are cancelled for 1 season then the European qualification argument becomes moot.
Is there a precedent for trophies being retrospectively taken away?,i could see a major legal battle if the FA went down that route, that opens up a whole new can of worms.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the league cup goes next season. The Champions league is a big money spinner though, I think that will only go as an absolute last resort. The Champions league and Europa reverting to a straight 2 legged knockout like it used to be would free things up a bit potentially.CrispyClaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:20 pmCan’t help feeling it would be better to cancel all of next seasons cup completions, domestic and European. League cups an easy one to bin, nobody takes it seriously nowadays, even in a standard season, the advantage for Burnley, assuming we don''t somehow qualify for the EL,is a few of the bigger clubs will have to juggle their squads,it's not a huge benefit, but anything which helps is welcome.jrgbfc wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 8:08 pmI certainly wouldn't be surprised if the league cup goes next season. Straight ko's in both European comps, could actually revive them both, particularly the EL,the sheer volume of games in the current format is crazy, and it doesn't catch fire until the latter stages.

Europe should be first to get cancelled to prevent travelling first and foremost.
Also different countries will be ready to start playing again at different times.

I’d do away with all european competition as well as domestic cups for next season other than the FA Cup.
The FA Cup will suddenly regain its prestige being the only knock out competition in the process. Burnley will only have to play 39 games, average 42/43 games for PL, 47/48 instead of 56 for EFL but there are loads of free weeks to pop games in without the European games and League cup.

Anyway, while we’re on the subject of cupe being taken off clubs I believe they should start by taken the first few cups off those cheating soda down at Ewood for their cups in the 1880’s for breaking rules and paying players and them only being amateur cups..
Re: Do cup winners also become null and void if a season is cancelled?
The Carabao cup is sponsored so it would be hard to scrap. They could have it as an U23 competition for the Premier League and Championship until quarter final stage with league 1 and 2 allowed normal teams throughout an one leg semi final. That way matches could be run at same time as league matches etc.

Money talks though, no way the big boys will want to lose the revenue from the Champions league, UEFA as well.
