£35m not a bad value. He will be worth more if he stays a couple more seasons and we stay in the Premiership.

On the plus side his transfer fee will cover the wage bill for the lengthy period our players won’t have been playing.

Just because the Geordies think Toon are a "big club" doesn't mean Dwight (or anybody else) believes it. McNeil will move to a proper big club if/when he leaves TM.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Could get Sam Clucas from Stoke at the fraction of the price and whist not as good as Dwight with Dyche's coaching he could easily fill his boots
Under Dyche its all about the team rather than the individual and £35m should give Dyche the funds to do what he does best and build a team to keep us in the top flight for a few more years to come

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Had to laugh at one report saying he'll provide competition for Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu for the left midfield spot - I'm sure that will have Dwight desperate to sign on the dotted line.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Never been a fan of Sam Clucas and at the moment IMHO he does not improve the squad. We have to do our best to find a replacement squad member with the potential to become our best midfielder, either established like our most recent signing or younger with potential, either from within, or from another club where his pathway into the first team seems to be blocked. Better still Dwight stays a while longer.

he's become a player the shabby sports media occasionally mention, but when he goes from Burnley within the next 2 years, it will be for some club with pedigree, not the geordie void of nothingness.

Can’t see Dwight moving to Newcastle, however what is of concern if there is any truth in the article is that McNeil’s agent has alerted clubs as to his availability.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Would be furious if we allowed Dwight to go to Newcastle for £35m.
Firstly, they are a big club, but very badly run - a shambles. As a 20 year old, stability and playing time (without pressure) are key, and neither are guaranteed at Newcastle. It would be a very bad move for Dwight at this point in his career.
Secondly, if we allowed him to go anywhere for £35m we’ve been robbed. With goalkeepers and central defenders going for £75-80m, anything less than £60m for an attacking, 20yo British, left-sided midfielder would be robbery. Would our mid-table competition sell their best young players for any less?
Don’t have an issue with being a selling club, but we need to start being aggressive in securing the top prices for our best players.

There is no way a small (lets be honest here) club like Burnley will get £60m for Dwight McNeill. It just won’t happen.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 11:08 amWould be furious if we allowed Dwight to go to Newcastle for £35m.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
A player who can run with ball is rare, a player who can beat other players and then use the ball well is very very rare and to buy such a player for £35m is rarer still
Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Keiran Trippier has sent him a message DON'T DO IT' the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence... He was frozen out at Spuds with only 69 apps in 4 years .... only one good season.
"He told the Burnley Express: 'I'd say "don't rush anything, just keep playing" and Dwight is at the right club to do that. He just needs to keep playing games, because that's the most important thing for somebody his age'.
'He's got the right manager to guide him and he'll be in no rush to go anywhere. If I was him I'd stay put and keeping playing games."
Heres a song channeling the old Robin Hood TV theme.
"Dwight McNeill Dwight McNeill gliding down the wing.
Dwight McNeill Dwight McNeill the Burnley crowd sing.
Go Dwight Go
Cross for a goal
Dwight McNeill Dwight McNeill Dwight McNeill"

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Most people think we've done will with our outgoings recently and the reported release fee for Tarkowski shows we are pretty aggressive.
Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
I think this was written in January and has just come to print. The situation regarding transfers post Covid will be largely dependent on TV revenues and in my opinion we will see a reduction in values as clubs will look to shrink squads.
I think we have about 7 players out of contract in June with options in our favour to sign a few for another year. We may have given Lennon and perhaps Bardsley another contract, but now we may not or we they do it may be at a lot lower wage. We are assuming Hart will go but will we exercise options on Brady, Dunne and O’Neill and will they be at a reduced salary.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
Why not?
Pre-Covid, accepting that will change the market, I think that’s his value. All you have to say to anyone offering less is “no”. That’s what other top clubs do when negotiating sales and there’s no reason we shouldn’t, just because we’re Burnley.
He’s British (premium), young (10 years at least at top level), a lot of experience for a player that age, left sided (rarer), can run with the ball, beat his man, whip a great cross in, score. And he’s on a long contract. Key is not wetting our pants at the first decent offer and holding out till he hits a real peak in form (at the moment, he’s playing well but needs to score more to hit the next level - he’s capable, if we don’t rush to sell him).
If we get relegated we lose about £60m in TV revenue. Hardly worth selling a player that can keep you in the Prem for much less than that, in my opinion.

Don’t dispute we’ve done pretty well in recent history. Just think a few from the current crop have the potential to take that to the next level, and like everything at our club, we should be aiming to build on recent successes.

Re: Rumour.....Dwight to Newcastle
I watched a rerun of the last Spurs home game yesterday. Dwight was head and shoulders better than any body else playing. The thing I noticed was how hard he worked defensively and how much he has improved during the season. 35 mill would be a joke. Dwight might be just the best player I have ever seen in a Burnley shirt. And I have seen a lot. And he is still on 20.

That’s going to be the going rate for tarks. Pope will be similar, and Dwight should be double £35M. No club in the world would sell Dwight, one of the best, most experienced under 21 players in the premier league for that.

And well invested, could push us on. Just hope we buy before we sell, as prices will increase if clubs know we have that sort of cash in the bank.

Report just popped up on my news feed: justarsenal.com - "He remains a target of the Premier League's biggest sides and Arsenal is looking at bringing him in when the transfer window reopens." Rest of article is report of Tripps interview with Burnley Express "don't do it, Dwight." Stay at Burnley.

Agreed. It's a myth that Toon are a "big club". They were last champions of England in 1927. Sunderland have been champions more often and more recently.
Thety have just about nil chance of winning another top league title before the 100th anniversary of their last one.

Well, they’ve got a bigger fan base, stadium and likely budget than us, so they’re bigger in that respect - you can’t ignore that - but would agree there is more chance of him winning something here than there. Hope he does the sensible thing, stays, works hard and goes to a really big club when he moves.
