When our time is up we can but hope that we've made a difference. He made a difference
Re: Peter Bonetti dies
In one of his games at Stamford Bridge Andy Lochhead scored a simple header past Bonetti, who claimed the ground had moved from under his feet, when he was about to make the save.

The most agile keeper of his generation.
Got the blame for 1970 - but Brian Labone was equally to blame

Re: Peter Bonetti dies
Since childhood The Cat was my favourite non-Burnley goalkeeper. It was partly in personal tribute to him that I called Heaton 'Tom Cat'.

Re: Peter Bonetti dies
He played in a team of stars in the 70's.
Peter Osgood, John Hollins, Eddie McCreadie, Alan Hudson and many more.
They were the most " fashionable" team at the time when London was taking over from Liverpool for the place to be seen.

And even more so Ramsey. Taking Bobby Charlton off was the biggest mistake of his managerial career.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 6:34 pmThe most agile keeper of his generation.

Re: Peter Bonetti dies
So "The Cat" used up the last of his 9 lives, rightly or wrongly he'll always be remembered for the WC defeat to West Germany.
Surprised he only won 7 England caps, but given the competition at the time,i probably shouldn't be,who's going to drop Gordon Banks.
RIP Peter

Re: Peter Bonetti dies
I recall many years ago, if I was playing outfield and struck an outstanding volley into the back of the net, the exclamation was " oh what a goal by Keith Weller!" in reference to his perfect vollied goal for Leicester vs Newcastle i think it was...but when playing in goal, after stretching for miles to tip it around the anorak it was "oh what a fantastic save by Peter Bonetti!"

Re: Peter Bonetti dies
Was always a favourite. First saw him playing for Chelsea at Gigg Lane v Bury in the League cup in 1972. He was stretchered off after a clash with John Connelly. David Webb going in goal. Bonetti returned about 30 minutes later. Chelsea won 1-0. RIP Cat.
Re: Peter Bonetti dies
He certainly was a great keeper, very athletic, hence the nickname. Another sad loss. Rest in peace Peter.
