Bury Question?

Post by NZclaret » Sun Apr 12, 2020 8:48 pm

A question I’ve been thinking for a while now and can’t see that it’s been posted already.

If the season was to end incomplete and therefore taken as if it never happened. Could Bury/Should Bury be allowed back in at league 1 level if they could?

I should imagine if the season was declared null n void, then they would have to be reinstated, as long as debt was cleared & they have sufficient funds to continue? I think the major problem @ Bury was the loon pot owner though!

No - the issue that got them expelled from the league has never been resolved by Dale - he also forfeited on his own CVA - no way back

Resurrect them? It was the Football League who chucked them out, not the FA, but there is no sensible reason why they should be re-admitted. Not one of the problems that forced their exit has been resolved. That football club has gone, it won't play football again at any level I wouldn't have thought.

Didn't our "guest" Bury poster post yesterday that "AFC Bury (2020)" - my made up name, I'm not sure what name the new club has chosen - was officially formed yesterday.

Good luck to the new Bury. I'm sure they are looking forward to starting out in the football pyramid and doing what Accrington Stanley (1968) and AFC Wimbledon (2002) have achieved.

Are there any other resurrected clubs that have made it back into the higher levels of the football pyramid?

They are going into the North West Counties League I think and good luck to them. No football fan deserves what happened to the Bury supporters.

I know deep down its a non starter but being one for the underdog I can't help but hope for a little miracle to come out of this awful virus and that the good people of Bury get their football league club back next season

They are going to get their club back, a newly formed club at a lower level.

Whatever the level, they have been given a place in the North West Counties League as I posted up the thread.

Im sure the vast majority of Bury fans would want their original club back in the EFL. Sadly this will not realistically be possible but it doesn't mean they cant dare to dream

I think they realised a long time ago that wasn't going to happen. Another bid for the old club fell flat on its face a couple of weeks ago and now the Bury fans are fully focused on the new club. Hopefully they won't be held back because of the current situation and will still be OK to go come the start of the 2020/21 season whenever that will be.

From what I read, they will be playing home games at Radcliffe Borough.

What are you hoping for? The old club was thrown out of the league and there is no way back for them. The fans have finally turned their backs and started up a new club. Their hope now is for the new club to get back to league football.

You keep wanting the old club back in the league and that would be so wrong on many levels. But as that club is virtually non-existent now it really can't and won't happen. The Bury fans have other fish to fry now with a brand new club. What we should all be doing is wishing them well with that.

I didn't join a debate I just gave a very simplistic view on something

I also didn't object to your opinion and responded to you amicably. You then have gone on for several more posts not adding anything new apart from basically telling me I dont know what Im talking about.

There was no need for you to keep quoting me and going on when Id made it clear id listened to what you had to say and my opinion wasn't changing

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill and in the times we're living in is there really any need

Not arguing with you but once you get to minor leagues the majority haven’t got a clue, that includes me. I was just showing what a difficult slog they’ve got to get back to where they were.

Hell of a climb but you have to start somewhere. They should find themselves being the biggest club in the league initially and that will help them progress initially as I'm sure it did for Wimbledon. A long, long way to go though.

Guys, no definite plans put in place yet, they have applied for the north west counties but not been accepted yet.because the league are concentrating on the current position of the non league pyramid.
Nothing left of the old club, gone, non existant, the future and focus is on the new club but if they dont get the investment it will be a short dream.
The local press down here dont tell the bury public whats going on to be honest, useless.

A lot of the long term bury supporters are very apprehensive of this faceless group who are trying to finance afc bury because they havent gone public with their plan for the new club, no confirmation of league, not confirmed what they have agreed of where they are to play for definite. Very much in the air with everything so i'd be surprised if they have a massive uptake on their proposed scheme to be honest. You would think more positively if they had a public meeting to agree a plan.

Real crying shame what has happened to your club.
There but for the grace of god for a lot of clubs including ourselves in terms of we are very fortunate as fans to have owners who firstly have made some very good decisions and secondly care for the club.
Hope you work your way up the pyramid quickly and hopefully you will have enjoyable times along the way.

Out of interest what is happening with Gigg Lane ?

That's something I've been thinking. I presume Dale has made sure he owns the ground rather than Bury FC so when the club is eventually liquidated, it is his to sell.

Thanks tony, been a claret all my life whilst my brother and father are united season ticket holders, long story.
Think the ambition of the takeover was nothing to do with football he just wanted to make money and at the end of the day he has a massive asset in gigg lane but hopefully the adminstrators/liquidators will include this in the defrocking of the businessman.

The phoenix club (Bury AFC) was launched on Sunday. So much work has been going on from a group of dedicated fans and all their names are now in the public domain. This is in direct opposition to a consortium which was recently in contact with Dale about buying the original club and therefore the ground. This was all very secretive with an awful lot of 'I-know-but-I'm-not-allowed-to-say' on social media which was beyond infuriating. Talks broke down when the Bury Times ran a story that the consortium weren't happy with, apparently. I've struggled to keep track of it all and I want to do a book about it FFS. There's been a lot of division in the fanbase that's stemmed from the divide and conquer initiated by Stewart Day - some believed his vision and bought into it, some didn't and tried to persuade other people towards that way of thinking. At a time like this we needed a singular vision and voice - we got a civil war. I pray nothing like this ever happens to another club, it's been horrible.

Does anyone on here know the former Bury vice-chairman, so Stewart Day's number two, Glenn Thomas? His LinkedIn says he went to St Christopher's in Accrington.
