Sir Tom Moore - Inspirational
Sir Tom Moore - Inspirational
There is a guy in a village near me (Marston Moretaine) called Captain Tom who will be 100 on April 30th and who is truly inspirational. He set himself a challenge to raise £1,000 for NHS Charties Together by walking 100 lengths of his garden, his total currently stands at £3.12M! If you can donate, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ ... kforthenhs
What a truly inspirational man, thank you Tom

It’s one of those things you read and it gives you goosebumps, such a shame that he is having to spend this precious time in lockdown, but is using his time well.
God bless that man, Happy birthday Captain Tom

Yes he was discussed on the other thread, but his achievements are deserving of there own thread, indomitable spirit and as you correctly state truly inspirational.

I must have missed it on the other threads, apologies for that - still, he deserves a thread all of his own anyway

Just donated he's £4m+ staggering amount considering he only had a target of £1,000.Nearly 200,000 supporters have pitched in,shows that the generosity of the public is still there even during these testing times.

Just donated. Incredible guy. Featured on the National news at lunchtime when he had just got from £1m to £1.5m in less than two hours. Now over four as stated I wonder just how high this is going to get. A truly inspirational man.

Love watching the numbers fly up and think it’s a great story. However, not massively impressed that the daughter has now turned the just giving page into an advert for her company. Just left a little sour taste reading that. I hope she doesn’t get greedy and spoil this...

Know what you’re saying stanbill05, I’ve had similar opinions with those that love to tell everyone about their good deeds for likes and praise. But... if good comes from it, as it does with almost all good deeds, then I’ve learnt to accept that’s how the modern mind works and leave them to crack on

The guy has raised £10,000,000. Ten million. For the NHS.Stanbill05 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:09 pmLove watching the numbers fly up and think it’s a great story. I get the sentiment you are making. But as 1989 says this is just how modern society works like it or loathe it. The fact he has raised £10m for The NHS and how far that will go is worth more than any small exposure his daughter may get.

Point taken, but, with all due respect, I think you're being a bit harsh ...Stanbill05 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:09 pmLove watching the numbers fly up and think it’s a great story. I first saw the " Just Giving " page at around £700 k, and the page made reference that a local company would sponsor him for £1 every lap. I think this was his daughter & son-in-law's Company, to suggest that he'd got a start, and to encourage others to donate. It's not obvious what line of business they're in, and, frankly, if they get some extra custom from this endeavour, then good luck to them ! They seem to be good people !
The good news is that Captain Tom has got less than £31,000 to raise before hitting the £10,000,000 mark !!

I don’t disagree with any of you and I’ll get over it and support it. Just niggled me. I wanted it to be pure and about Tom and the NHS entirely. I’ll be cheering on every penny nonetheless.

Aiming to raise & achieve £1000 is impressive enough but to get 12000 times that amount is truly remarkable - not many people become a “hero” twice in their life

Re: Captain Tom Moore - inspirational
I've not posted on this thread previously, simply because I can't think of any words that would be sufficient for what Captain Tom is doing. My dad would have been in his 99th year had he still been with us. Would he have tried something like this in his back yard? I doubt it, but I know he would be so proud of one of his old veterans doing this.

Re: Captain Tom Moore - inspirational
Talk of a campaign getting underway to give Capt. Tom a knighthood. Can't think of a better way to honour him for what he's done. Absolutely amazing that so many people in our country will benefit from the various NHS charities that will receive support from the monies raised. Whilst I'm not in total agreement with the Honours List, Tom would indeed be a more deserving recipient than some others, born with silver spoons etc, and knighted for basically doing their jobs. Well done Capt. Tom.
Re: Captain Tom Moore - inspirational
Incredible.
He speaks so well too.
Goodness knows what the amount raised will have reached by the time of his birthday at the end of the month.

The last hour has seen donations still coming in at a rate of £5,500 a minute ..... the really heart-warming thing is that it's not a few big donations that's done this, it's 735,000 or so everyday folk chipping in, the average donation is just under £20 ...

I've seen a change.org petition to get him knighted, and also Old Guys Rule have hinted at a commemorative t-shirt in his honour too
