Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a bottle or two in the Burnley area. I used to buy it in Tesco but it seems they no longer stock it. Cheers.

Oh No - gutted
I'll have to go my reserve then - Fullers ESB , Another one that seems to have vanished from the shelves , any ideas of its whereabouts and availability?

You could order some of these online direct from Wye Valley Brewery. Top notch ale.

Has anyone seen any bottled Marston's Oyster Stout lately. Booths always used to have it, but it just disappeared from the shelves about two years ago.
Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
Sorry, I think your preference is for dark Stronger ales. Have a look at Hobsons.

Was going to try some until I realised a case was only 8 bottles for £25.

Keep an eye out in Lidl. They tend to have a variety of decent ales (generally brewed by Shepherd's Neame or Marston's but showing as their own label) for about a quid a bottle. The Ruby Rooster is probably what you'd want, the porter is decent too. They are traditional beers rather than the "craft beers" the packaging may suggest.

Agreed Lidl in Clitheroe had some great deals last week on craft beers....aggi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 10:53 amKeep an eye out in Lidl. Might start trying some of these different ales. It's 2pm and I've already had 4 cans of Guinness.

This was one of my favourites before Marstons got hold of it and then stopped the production full stop.
If you like darker beers have a look at Titanic brewery as they make some great stouts and porters, one of which to try for sure is the Plum Porter!!
If you have a decent bargain booze locally mine does 8 bottles for £12.99, thank goodness off licences are classified as essential

Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
this news certainly upset some in the family as this is traditionally what they drink in the Lake District when visiting.
Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
It upset me when I went to Keswick last year as the Bank Tavern there served one of the finest pints of it !!
Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
Black Sheep I am told is the back up drink but to be honest watching them I think they'd drink almost anything at times.

Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
Home Bargains recently had a number of Sadlers ales for £1 per 500ml bottle. Just over a pound a pint. Hop bomb, Thin Ice, a new one on me that was Boris Citrov and if you like dark and strong, Mud City Stout. I have not had a bad ale from Sadlers.
Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
I had the mud city stout from them the other day and have to admit it was pretty tasty. At £1 per bottle I'd have cleared the shop

Re: Jennings Sneck Lifter Ale
I remember a landlord in Keswick explaining Sneck Lifter. He said that once you pressure the old style door latch with your thumb, the sneck lifts the latch so the door can be opened. A 'sneck lifter' would peer in through a slightly opened door to see if there was any possibility of having a drink bought, but the patrons therein were in turn forewarned by the sound of the sneck.
