Must have been horrible to play against, as Frank Casper will know all too well, but so sad to see someone apparently very fit and well lose his life to this damn virus.

It is very sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting him a decade of so ago, in a church of all places. Very down to earth character. Norman Hunter RIP.

The last time I saw him he was on his way to church. He was on Harry Potts Way behind John Connelly's funeral cortege.

I met Norman Hunter about 15 years ago on a corporate day at Leeds, big strong bloke and if his tackles where as strong as his handshake I am glad I was never on the end of one.

No idea but when Frank managed Burnley in a home game for the first time it was against Barnsley who were managed by Hunter.

I asked him around 4-5 years ago whilst on a trip with him. Absolutely not, the whole atmosphere changed when it was brought up.

PFA have suspended Player of the Year awards - because of covid-19.

In The Times report on suspension the last sentence is: "The award has been presented each season since 1973-74 when Leeds United’s Norman Hunter was the inaugural winner."

Rest in Peace Norman Hunter.

That tackle on Frank Casper was horrific and you could understand why Frank would never forgive or forget. A lot of tackles were back then were awful, however we have moved on in the game now and hopefully these types of tackles will never be seen again.

RIP Norman i sadly feared the worst when it mentioned his condition wasn't improving,horrible way to go for anyone,especially someone who was still active even well into his 70's.

Sad to see this but good to see some appreciative posts on here.A real Jekkyl and Hyde character...definitely a Hyde on the field .I met him twice on enforced visits to Elland Road about 20 years ago and on the second occasion I was sat next to him for the meal .He came across as a very ordinary sincere man ...he told me that if he hadn't played for Leeds , Burnley would have been high on his list of preferences .I asked him about the March 1974 horror tackle on Frank and really expected him to duck it.... his response was that " it looked worse than it was !!!!!"...and with a twinkle in his eye he said " Frank forgave me ". I wonder.

Disliked the guy for obvious reasons during his playing career. And would never forgive him for the event that I believe changed Burnley's fortunes in 1974.

But condolences for his family and friends at this sad time.

Hunter was a lot better player than people gave him credit for listening to some of the tribute today.
That Leeds team definitely had a lot of quality with the likes of Giles, Bremner, Madeley, Eddie and Frank Gray etc.

Unfortunately (for them) they will always be remembered for being a dirty team - and the main reason for that is because they were a dirty team. It was a time when you could get away with so much more than you can now and they took full advantage of that.

Most good teams had one or two hard men - chopper Harris, Jimmy Case, Tommy Smith etc.
Dirty Leeds had nearly a full team of them.

Spot on ....they're probably on the never take things for granted thred..Loved playing Leeds and said so...some cracking games When turf moor had atmosphere on the terraces.

Earlier this week Michael Oliver re-refereed the 1970 Cup Final replay, but held the players to today's interpretation of the rules. David Ellery conducted a similar exercise in 1997.

Oliver issued 6 straight Reds, another 5 Red cards for 2 Yellows, as well as 15 Yellows ....

Straight Reds: Norman Hunter, Jack Charlton, Eddie Gray for Leeds, Eddie McCreadie ( twice ), and Ron Harris

2 Yellows : David Webb, Charlie Cooke, Peter Osgood, Ian Hutchinson ( all Chelsea ), Billy Bremner for Leeds ..

Yellows : Webb, Hutchinson, Cooke ( 3 each ), Osgood and Bremner ( 2), Dempsey, Baldwin & Hinton ( 1 )

Agree with the sentiments ALP. RIP Norman Hunter.
The tackle Indeed was horrific, plenty of hard men around in them days who could dish it out without getting in bother with the refs, we had some too remember, Colin Blant for example. Would love to have seen a tackle between Blant & Hunter....ouch.
Let's also not forget the assault on David Hamilton by Stuart Pearce.

Who can forget this ,when Diddy David Hamilton refused to play “ Anarchy in the UK” for Stuart, Pearcey really went to town on the pint sized housewives choice , who evidently ate through a straw while convalescing at Wogan’s for the next 3 months

Thanks.... well true to form franny fell over his boot laces. And Hunter got him with a right hook. Air punches from franny.....hunter was backing off like a boxer does,then hed have sparked him out.
