Can anyone else feel an all-time Burnley " hard-men " team thread coming up ?

Brian Miller and Tarks at C/B, Andy Lochead paired with John Gayle up front, Kevin Ball and Lenny Johnrose in midfield maybe with Ronnie Jepson on the bench ?? Chris Eagles on the wing ? OK, the last one was a joke ...

The last time I saw him he was on his way to church. He was on Harry Potts Way behind John Connelly's funeral cortege.

Do you think similar things will happen with younger generations of players? I know Bobby Charlton has attended the funerals of a number of Burnley players from the 60s for instance. Wonder if that same level of respect and connection between players still exists?

Charlton was at John Connelly's but then again he'd been a team mate with Manchester United and England. Denis Law was there too as was Hunter who had been in the 1966 World Cup squad with Connelly. Charlton often represents Manchester United so I suppose clubs will do this but high profile players usually get a good turn out.

Sadly it won't be the case for Hunter because of the current situation. I know someone who has died recently and his is a private funeral because of the restrictions. That's so hard for the people who were close to the people who have died.

Maybe you could start such a thread, but Tarks would be nowhere near the final eleven at centre back. (I presume that you never saw Colin Blant or David Merrington, and there are others).

I mentioned on another thread that Dave Merrington once described being tackled by Colin Blant was like being tackled by a flying lamp post...not that he could take as he didn't believe in taking any prisoners.

Peter Swan? I remember a crunching tackle on a young Dele Adebola when we played Crewe. I think Adebola went off after the tackle. Gradi wasn’t happy with Swans Tackle. We let Crewe have the ball in their own half but once they crossed the line we closed them down and attacked on the break. Won 2-0.

Personally didn’t see anything wrong with the tackle

Phil Malley liked to leave a foot in as I recall....but Brian o Neil used to get in a few scraps!

Not the best ever but who remembers the right back from Bacup inbthecdark days Andy Wharton I think he was called legend had it he had BFC tattooed on his knuckles and he tackled like a Longsider against a Blackburn fan..
As intimated this needs it's own thread.

Tarks might not tackle the way the others did as you can’t get away with it but he’s as strong as anyone I’ve ever seen at Burnley in any position. His legs are bigger than the average mans waist, perhaps not the average Northerners waist

I love the Ben Mee photo of the player somersaulting over his thigh Mee is very hard.

Sure he crunched Carl Griffiths for Man City in a pre season friendly at the turf after they had just signed him from Shrewsbury.
