New TV advice

Post by CaptainKirk » Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:02 am

Thought I might give myself a little treat and update my TV.
Can't believe the prices for a 40 odd incher, they seem to be giving them away.
Anyone got any recent experience of a TV for around £300 - £400?
Are they ok and what do people get when they go silly and pay a small fortune for one?

Don’t matter how much you pay, it’s still Ant & Dec on Saturday night.

I’ve bought several TV’s and HiFi from Richer Sounds. Always good advice in their Leeds store. Suspect you will get great advice on their website.

Richer Sounds - never heard of them - will have a look.
Ant and Dec - absolute professionals. Like their shows or not, they are very good at it.

Richer Sounds is a very good shop / chain and has a decent on line offering. Plenty advice and information on the site to help you make the right choice for you.

Depends what you want out of it. If your happy with just a good picture there are plenty of on line reviews, I’ve never gone wrong with LG or Samsung.
If you want smart tv ask more questions, the android ones are best for apps but some run there own systems which might not give what you expect.
If you want 4k more questions but I was lucky to discover, on an old thread, that there is more content available than I expected, youtube and netflix.
If you want IPTV to watch telly from around the world, or free sport, even more questions. It’s a minefield. Good luck.

I got a Hisense from Amazon a couple years ago on Prime Day. Really happy with it, cost £370 at the time for 50" 4k display with decent smart features, good sounds. Could probably get more for less today.
I think as far as the budget brands go there' a solid shout, I remember them being all over the 2018 world cup.

We changed our old 32" late last year. Don't like dealing with currys etc, much prefer to shop local, I've found you get much better service. We used Harry Garlicks, very accommodating and their engineer set it all up for us. We may have paid a bit more than the big stores but I find you get better back up service.

As stated above, it depends how ';good' you want it. I have two LG's - the 42" one upstairs is 8 years old and still fine, and the 43" downstairs is a smart tv and has everyhting I need. I got it from John Lewis on a sale, but I think they also price match IRRC

I've used garlicks without any problems, even the local smaller stores will offer to pricematch sometimes when you've been browsing before walking away.

TVs are bigger, better and cheaper. Not like the days of renting your Old B&W box!

I off her no advice, they are all good. However, the only observation is that like buying a computer, the latest costs more, the ones just out of fashion, considerably less and on sale and the 'other brands', which have excellent features using all the previously known technology (other than the cutting edge) are a snip.

Enjoy your viewing of the Mighty Clarets, when they return.

Another vote for Richer Sounds. Bought all my TV and sound gear from there. Top advice and usually cheapest as they price match with extra discount as well and usually 6 years warranty. Go and speak with them. I use the Preston branch and all the lads there are ultra knowledgeable especially Howie the store manager. :D

Another vote for Harry Garlick, they trade online as " Electrical Discount UK " so you should be able to get delivery ... They were brilliant in delivering and setting up my parent's TV, nothing was too much trouble !
